C/PF class of 2015 Luke Knapke (6" 10 ") commits to Toledo. He is from Marion Local HS
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

Nice. Has some ball-handling and passing skills for a big guy. Also a decent outside shot. Put on 20 pounds and he looks like a very good recruit. Variously listed from 6-9 to 6-11.

Knapke has offers from Kent, Akron, Miami, Wright State and Northern Kentucky.
Excellent... we just need a point guard!
• Luke Knapke – ’15 Marion Local PF/C: The 6’10 post out of Northwest Ohio chose the Toledo Rockets on Tuesday night, becoming the third Ohio prospect from the 2015 class to choose an in-state MAC School. Toledo head coach Todd Kowalczyk was the first D1 coach to offer Knapke over a year ago, and that early offer paid major dividends for the Rockets, when the skilled post from Marion Local committed to him this week. Knapke turned down offers from Akron, Wright State, Miami (OH), Kent State, Ball State and Northern Kentucky to choose Toledo; the closest of all the MAC schools to his home. Because he plays at an Ohio Division IV high school, and with a non-shoe company sponsored AAU team, Knapke isn’t really a well-known names to casual observers of the recruiting scene, however, the 6’10 post has a lot of upside and is a guy who mid-major coaches were really battling to sign in the 2015 class.

this is the makings of a third straight very good recruiting class. If they can add a point guard either JC or top flight HS one, this could be the best class of the three in 2015.
Nice verbal for the Rockets. He has a nice game. He is coordinated for a big guy, and runs the court well. He has a nice shot, uses the backboard in the paint, good court vision, a soft touch, passes well, is unselfish, and has nice lenght.

It is a nice change to see Toledo get kids over perenial MAC basketball powers like Akron.

Excellent job coaches.
good get. will take him a bit to acclimate to D1 from a small hs level, but you see his competitiveness in the highlight reel which is a good compilation (the highlights aren't a highly produced display of moments bbut actually game clips where you get a better sense of how he handles himself on the court.

he's got a really nice stroke and should develop into a stretch 4 type big forward. getting a 6-10 kid to a mac school usually means there's a catch (too skinny, too fat, can't shoot, plays lazy, etc...). he looks like a winner, just needs more muscle and seasoning.

could pair well w away in a few yrs
I wonder if Massey or Stacey were involved in getting this commit. They are both articulate and may be excellent recruters.

Point guard has to be the priority. Brown is gone after this season. Losing Stokes was a killer. He could have worked with Juice this year and be ready next season.

We have two scholarships. Don't know if we try to bring in one or two PG's for next season, or one in '15 and one in '16. Either way we need an impact kid. No reason we can't attract a high profile guy with the likelihood he's an immediate starter.
i revise my opinion of knapke. on further review, i think he's a bit of a beast. really versatile. plays the game right. sees the court. gorgeous shot. has handles. is a gangly 15-16 yr old in the highlights but is pretty athletic. let's get him signed. great potential. kid could grow into a skilled 6-10 230 sf in a few yrs. coach k continuing to use a smart recruiting approach. getting in early on really good and kinda undervalued recruits within an hr or 2 of toledo. while continuing to find good mid major recruits out of chicago area.

just a hint of a 2017 roster looks like a true pg away from a nice team. that's how you build a program.
lauf sr wing
j williams sr point/scorer
garber sr big
applwhite sr wing
a williams sr big
hall jr wing
mosley jr point/scorer
adway so big
knapke so big
Hope Lauf develops a consistent 15-18 foot game as a slasher I think he's there. Garber hopefully is alot stronger this year. really excited to see Applewhite and J Williams games and how they've improved since last year. With continued recruitment and player development UT canbe a top 5 mid major Force in the next few years. I hope this will translate to many MAC tourney championships and NCAA wins.
Another get for Toledo today. 2015 SG Chandler White out of Fort Wayne, Indiana has committed to the Rockets.

Also has an offer from Boston College, I wonder if our victory against them helped us in his decision.

Chandler White commits to UT
Looks like he has a nice outside shot from three-point range. Also has a variety of moves highlighting his 6" to 12" vertical lift. He'll need to spend time in the weight room. Interesting to see him develop over the years.
Interesting pickup. Until recently all the info I read didn't even mention Toledo. Film on him shows a very good athlete that can finish at the rim with alot of authority. A slasher who has some perimeter game, who at times has a line drive stroke. Ball State, Indiana State, Northern Kentucky were schools he visit. one article from July stated that Boston College had cooled on him. Overall, nice addition to the class. UT is heading for a remarkable class.
Make that 2 commits today. Rockets add another guard in Jaelan Sanford out of Indiana.

Does Northern Kentucky offer every kid in HS or did we hack their recruiting program?
