You missed The Bridge at Remagen, which was written by Ken Hechler, a WWII veteran who was there.
I did. It too is a great film. The ones I picked were ones that I believed would give insight into the different perspectives on the wars, or just great epic movies. There aren't many about the Korean conflict but the ones that were made all tend to be pretty good movies. A friend of the family was one of the survivors on Pork Chop Hill. He always said it was a good movie, but way to tame for the actual events. Another friend of the family fought in Sicily and again in the mountains in Italy, but for the SS, and on the opposite side from an uncle who also made the D day landing, 3rd wave, at Omaha.
The fellow that lived at the end of the road I grew up on was a Korean War vet. He had foot problems from the frostbite he received in the first winter of the Korean War in 1950. American troops were totally unprepared for the cold climate of the area. American soldiers had no gear to combat the extreme Siberian winter conditions at first. The weather came as a complete surprise to those in charge of our troops. It wasn't until the first winter was halfway over that our troops got the cold weather gear necessary for their survival. By then, many had died or been permanently crippled by frostbite. Big D was one of 'em.
