C-USA has bought the Bahamas Bowl and will play a minimum of 4 out of the next 6 years. Original tie ins had the slots rotating between MAC, AAC, Sun Belt, and C-USA. AAC was originally scheduled to play there this season but gave up their slot to C-USA. C-USA gave up their slot in Miami for this year.

Belt was scheduled to play once (or twice?) over the next 6 years.

This strange bowl just got stranger.
Sounds like CUSA bought AAC slots only after AAC agreed to Cure Bowl. Overseas bowl games are a novel idea but they don't seem like they will last.
I don't like that bowl anyway. Attendance will blow.

So does the Pro Bowl's and half of bowl games.

That's why they play them. Sucks we are out of the rotation. I would have gone.

Great bowl for the players and fans that attend. Flights are usually cheap to the Bahamas as well...
Odd. Some think this bowl is the best thing since French Fries, and some do not
think it will last past the first game.

CUSA bought it so yes. As someone has already said, it will be a better located Hawaii Bowl. It will be able to be played in the afternoon of the EST time zone. Will be closer travel for the teams as well. And will be an exotic locale game in a smaller stadium than the Hawaii Bowl.
Where does it say Sun Belt gave up slots. Looks like only AAC did. Plus isn't the SBC giving up the NOLA bowl to AAC the year SB was supposed to be Bahama Bowl?

It doesn't say MAC, Belt, or MWC gave up their ties. Only that AAC gave up this year and might give up the rest of the years as well.
I think its a crap idea.

Hawaii may suck to get to but you don't need passports for everyone in the traveling party to get them there.

I went earlier this year there and it required either a passport or an official birth certificate.

I've never looked it up, but are travel costs that superior to (for example) Hawaii?

In general, I figure if I'm getting on an airplane and not going to another continent, the costs are going to be similar.

Yep! I also have a passport.
How many people realistically were going to attend a G5 bowl not in their city or within 3 hours driving? 5k total? 8K? The majority of the folks are going to be locals or your going to have a lot of empty seats. The reality is that it only affects the super fans. And oh yeah, white sand beaches, palm trees and crystal clear lagoons in 85 degree weather in late December is the worst.

Yes, but how many College Football Players currently have access to a passport?

If your team gets invited you will see 55 or whatever the number traveling teams roster is applications fast tracked for approval. Its almost as if people think that the people who came up with this bowl have not thought of these things. Heck I would think that if you are an offcial in the Athletic Department of a school in one of the two conferences tied into the game this December that you would start making arrangements from now just in case or at least by mid season if it looks like you might go bowling.

It does, indeed, say nothing about the Sunbelt losing its two slots (out of six), since other than CUSA stepping up from the previous three/six to a minimum of four/six, the rest of the tie-ins are up in the air.

The MWC only had one spot in that mix, if they dropped out then two/six Sunbelt appearances could very well still be in the offing.

In an English speaking country that gets US cable networks of the satellite and sends a lot of their kids to US Universities, and given the fact that its a once a year novelty ... its likely to get a reasonably good local turn-out. The Bahamas are doing it as a tourism advertisement, and so aren't likely to be banking on big ticket allotments to make the thing work.

Possible, but you also have the problem of Passports costing money, and I am not sure the NCAA allows Universities to pay for those.

Keep in mind as well that the travel roster for a bowl is usually the entire team. Coaches take even the walk-on's so they can get the whole "Bowl Experience" That could be 100 plus passports that would need to be fast-tracked.
