That article is harder to follow than most if Scarbo's tripe. He seems to be saying that taking authority and power away from schools like UAB is the best thing for them.

He is a shill and a hack for the SEC.
He also made the monumentally stupid argument that giving more power to the power conferences won't hurt teams like UAB with the stupid example: See, UAB split its baseball series with nationally ranked Alabama, so it can compete in any sport regardless of monetary or competitive balance.

What a moron.
Oh oh oh but Scarbo loves UAB!!! Because he writes a pro UAB article once or twice a year, usually in June when nothing is going on.
I'm surprised he can write anything with Pearl's member in his mouth.
That would impede his speaking ability mostly. However, depending on the size of said member, it could also impede his writing abolity
Scarbo is a nice guy. No need to attack him.
He's a hack, no matter what team you root for, he is a bad sportswriter. His articles are incomprehensible streams of consciousness. I think he just sits down and spits out whatever comes to mind in 20 minutes

Amen to that. Scarbo has always been terrible. Those comments under the article as horrid as always. He reminds me of Skip a little from First Take. Just wants to be a troll.
Instead of trying to keep the Alabamas of the world in NCAA Division I, it's time that everyone accepted that they're for-profit professional development leagues and separate them from public institutions.

The phrase "outdated notion of amateurism" says all that needs to be said about the problem of college sports these days.
I worry that the local sports and news will be unavailable in the future as local content gets devalued. I enjoy local content and wish we had more. Bashing the local scribes does not help. Any publicity is good as long as they spell your name right. I just want the locals to know UAB is alive and competing well. If we could make some noise, more people will write and more will read.
I will say this about Scarbo: he values UAB athletics and attends UAB events even on his off days. I know he had his son's birthday party at a UAB basketball game one year, which is more than what 90% of Birminghamsters can say about their attendance of UAB athletics.

Isn't that what a columnist is?

Maybe in the world of Al.com. Not what it's supposed to be though

A columnist is someone who writes for publication in a series, creating an article that usually offers commentary and opinions.

What Scarbo is trying to say in too many words is that UAB won't be forced to pay players or drop sports or divisions... not the best column Scarbo has written, but the point is that this saves UAB's butt financially. What's so wrong about that?
Some of you suffer from battered spouse syndrome.

Did I complain about the fact that he offered his opinion?

My main gripe is that his columns were poorly written and often don't make sense, as in they sounded like they had been written in a few minutes with little prior planning. Or is that part of your or wikipedia's definition of a columnist?
He's the James T. Kirk of columnists... He writes everything in 1 or 2 sentence paragraphs, akin to Kirk's halting, over-the-top lines.

I think that is a directive that has been pushed down to all al.com writers. There's one guy who is covering the Jefferson County Commission who is writing his headlines like he works for Buzzfeed and every sentence is a new paragraph. It makes my head hurt to get my news from there.
