Watching the history of the Revolutionary War tonight ( I know...exciting lifestyle huh), they said a group of South Carolina guerillas named the "Partisans" terrorized the British. Among this group the most feared by the British was a guerilla group nicknamed the "Gamecocks". Is this where the school name originated? I somehow never thought the schools mascot was really a chicken. Can someone clear this up for me?

Who the heck knows where the name of the school's mascot came from, it's a chicken for goodness sake.
