Probably stir up a hornets nest, but there's a link on the EKU web page to President Benson's address concerning athletics on Thursday afternoon. While nothing he said was earth shattering by any means, he does say we are continuing to pursue a FBS move and he talks about what has to be done. He has visited WKU and several other schools in the process of the study. There is one professor who makes a typical ridiculous 'I'm watching out for my butt' comment, but the rest is informational on where we are and where he knows we have to go to make this a reality. Dr. Benson has done his homework, has also spoken to student groups, and it seems the Board of Regents are on board. Now, before Campaign4 Liberty jumps all over this, we know this does not mean an invitation is around the corner, but your suggestion from several months ago that we take care of all the down trodden in the eastern part of the state first, please know that is not only our mission. And certainly we don't need advice from others out of state on that particular issue....remember we are only one of numerous universities in KY and certainly not as you suggested the one in the eastern most region of KY.

EKU would be a very good addition if they can get the football facilities up to par.

Best of luck on your pursuit. I, being a die hard fan of a school wanting to move up, knows how much the waiting sucks.

If you can fund it, do it. I do worry however about doing it on the backs of the students from that region specifically - hopefully major donors are lined up and waiting.
I think if EKU moved up that would be great news. I hope it's LU but if not it is what it is.
Good for them. EKU will make a great candidate in a couple of years.

If the belt decides to hold on an eastern team...it would probably be to EKU's advantage.

What part of this do you not understand?
First of all no amount of a student athletic fee has been implemented. If you watched the video you would know that. Secondly, EVERY school in the OVC has an athletic fee currently except EKU; EKU has none, nada, zero, at the present time. I would guess many of the schools in the Sun Belt have student athletic fees, as well a lot of schools throughout the nation other than the big boys.
This other thing, and I quote: "that region". Do you have any idea where EKU is located? I thought we went over this in another thread. EKU is located in CENTRAL Kentucky, the heart of the bluegrass region. We have students from all over Kentucky, as well as other states and foreign countries. Yes, we have students from poor sections of the state, as do all schools in Kentucky ( Western Ky U as well, who does have a student athletic fee). And you can stop worrying, EKU does not have to be YOUR appointed poster child for all that you think is wrong in the world of college athletics and the world in general. Seriously, If you are truly that concerned, might I suggest some of all those millions of dollars you say Liberty has, should go to help the poor you are worried about instead of funding a move to FBS. I am very serious when I suggest this, you keep talking about your concerns and your "worrying", but it appears that instead of working on a solution, you are on here begging and pleading Liberty's case, while pointing fingers at others.
hey lex buddy eku is way late to the FBS party

1, you have to be invited
2, there are several schools ahead of you
3, the SBC only has one slot....

enjoy the ovc

Two and three are debatable.
Missouri St, New Mexico St, and Eastern Kentucky would all be good additions to the basketball side of the conference.

JSU doesn't have any athletic fees or any student fees other than tuition.
Nothing against the Lynchburg Flamers but I'd rather have the EKU Colonels.

Eastern Ky. just may be a sleeping giant candidate for the SBC.

Not to be contentious, but look at a map. EKU is in the central part of the Eastern half of the state. Just because the Lexington area likes to call itself "central Kentucky" doesn't make it so. Nothing against EKU, but as someone from the western part of Kentucky,, its a bit of a sticking point with us.

I've always assumed that Kentucky people had Geography issues. There is no way on earth Lexington is in Central Kentucky, and I am not sure how Bowling Green is considered Western Kentucky...
The Bowling Green area doesn't even refer to itself as Western Kentucky. Its South Central Kentucky. Its barely even in the western half of the state. Politicians a hundred years ago created the two colleges and political back door deals determined the cities they'd be in. One in the eastern half and the other in the western half...barely.

Interesting insight into Kentucky politics of the day.

Their administration is handling things the right way.
