So obviously StAte and Louisiana will finish 1-2 in some form or fashion. Which team outside of that has the possibility to make a run at the 1 or 2 spot?

I'd weigh in, but I don't know enough about the other teams to make even an educated guess.

And to play off that, which of the teams that are being predicted to be near the bottom 4 of the conference have the best chance to finish middle of the pack at least?

USA has my vote to be in the mix next year.
The top spot is much more wide-open this year than it has been as of late.
USA's only issue is they travel to both stAte and ULL this year.

And Georgia Southern plays neither...but this is a transition year for them.
I was impressed with USA's progress last year. If there is any team that can break into the top 2 I have to believe it is USA this year.
all y'all predicting USA to be strong need to take into consideration we have a new qb and a new dc.

we have weapons on offense and we BELIEVE the qb play will stay solid, but D and special teams have been a ? so far. time will tell. we'll be a tough game for most folks at least, no doubt.
If Brandon Bridge is as good as advertised, South should make a strong run to the top. No doubt he must have a break out year.

UL has the deepest team it's ever fielded, plus you guys and stAte coming to Cajun Field. Barring injuries, the top spot isn't as wide open as you think. I could see an argument made for 2-4 though.
Does seem to be Louisiana's for the taking.
As long as they don't mess up they should be there at the end.

I wouldn't count us out. We really are only breaking in a new QB. (And I don't know anyone who thinks that's necessarily a bad thing)Otherwise the rest of the team is back. We're so used to coaching changes that changing coaches don't appear to be a major deal.
Well if the top two spots are already decided then why even play? I was told Louisiana Lafayette would roll all over USA last year. I'm glad we decided to play because 30-8 happened.

Sorry if your feelings are hurt that most don't consider your team amongst the top 2.

There are numerous prediction threads on this board. Are you going to cry on all of them or just this one?

I said I could see an argument for 2-4. Still think stAte will be #2 though, with a strong shot to contend for #1.

Just don't buy the opinion that the top is wide open.

Had the HC at ASU fired the idiot OC after the Memphis game, and the senior DL (who was allowed to score a TD against WKU) not spiked the ball, and the red shirt freshman DL not decided he had ran to far not to hit someone( even if they were out of bounds) in the same game, UL would not be in the mix.

The only thing I failed to allow for last year in my prediction was stupidity, on the part of the HC and players (one DB tried his best to cost ASU the bowl game) at ASU.

Short of stupidity, if ASU finds some depth at DL(and they most likely will), there is only one team to beat in the SBC, yesterday, today or tomorrow. One of these days you guys will catch on.

With a redshirt freshman QB that had played a total of 1 quarter of college football. Had Broadway not broken his wrist I'm not sure you guys would have won.

Broadway didn't play defense.

My post was directed at the original post that said Louisiana and ASU WILL finish 1-2. We all know there are not any sureties in this league. That's not to say the Cajuns aren't the favorite, because I don't know how it could be argued otherwise.
I don't see why y'all think ULL and stAte are going to be the automatic top 2.

People put Troy as top 2 in 2011 and we see how that turned out... Not saying it will happen this year but there will be a time they won't be top 2.

A word of caution (and I am absolutely not trying to dog or doubt your guys): Playing the if game will break your heart.

Take it from a Bobcat fan... We are experts on the if game. If only we didn't take the knee in 2005. If we actually tried to pass the ball more against ULM, we'd have been bowling. If our QB didn't get hurt, we'd have had a better shot against Troy... etc.
