Dropping back into 1AA would be the best move for them.

Good. Now please no more schools that don't want to be full members. In fact, no more schools, period.

Maybe they found out playing in the MAC East was like still playing I-AA football. They'll land in a bigger and better conference with a better situation. Many will sit here in this lousy conference and continue to try convince us that the MAC is somehow superior situation to be in, while we are a one bid BB trick pony.

GOOD FOR YOU UMASS!!!!!!!!
Umass was in the Mac??
What took so long?
Hope we send them a real nice parting message when they come into the Glass Bowl this upcoming season.
UMASS!!!!!! Take us with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can the MAC kick us out because we don't have Men's Track or Wrestling?????

Best thing that could have happened, they SUCKED. Automatic win for who ever they played.

Yeah sure, let's tag along with the Minutemen !! 03-banghead
UMASS would have 4 options -
1) Sun Belt football only(worse than the MAC).
2) CUSA- same scenario as above ( also being only northeastern school in a southern conf.)
3) Independent route(only works if you are ND, BYU, or the service academies).
4) Drop back down to FCS because the AAC will not be calling anytime soon.

Look, I'm not thrilled about being in the MAC, but it could be a heckuva lot worse. The ship sailed for UT when we were not able to be a part of the old METRO Conference (Cincy, Louisville, Memphis) back in the day...
The independent route is getting very tough. With conferences expanding and adding in-conference games, it's getting tougher to fill an independent schedule. Notre Dame is playing at least five ACC games per year beginning in 2015. Navy will join the AAC for football in 2015. The only true independent teams a year from now will be Army and BYU.

UMass wants to get into the AAC, but won't. I think they'll end up in A10 for all sports and won't have to pay an insane rent for 246 fans at "home" football games.

it'll be just like when UCF joined, got housed then moved to another conference and are doing better
I don't see a snowball's chance of Umass doing better than they did the MAC, unless they drop down a division.

UCF happens to be located in talent rich Florida. UMASS is another story in terms of recruiting.
I'm not optimistic about UMass's chances of not being stuck as an independent. Not that I really care. They're like Temple - too good for us apparently.

Given the MAC's record against the Sun Belt the last couple of years, one could argue that the MAC is the worse conference.
