I think some of these comments seem familiar:

If a team plays in Ypsilanti and no one is there to see, does it really exist?
I watched a little of the NIT game at St John's, which usually has good attendance, and there had to be less than 1,000 there.
Eastern Michigan 58, Norfolk State 54

1,027 At least they played it in Queens and not at Madison Square Garden.

1027 for a Big East team is quite awful- but I think their fans packed it in.

St. John's has a very fairweather fanbase. It doesn't surprise me nobody showed up to the gym in Queens on short notice for a team that underachieved. Of course, it was clear the team didn't care about the game last night, either.

Yeah. Ive noticed the fairweather. The year they made a nice run at the end of the year, they'd pack it in at Madison Square of course.

A bit weird with the history that St Johns has to have a fairweather fan base.

Might just be the city they live in- so much to do and so many sports going on for college basketball to compete
Usually, I talk smack about EMU's attendance. But after reading these articles, I can't feel anything but sorry for their athletes. They even sent out a mass email to all students inviting them to the game...yet nothing. How does EMU even attract any athletes? I really want to know how they get recruits to come to their school. What is there to sell?

Hey, at least they won, so I'll be pulling for them the rest of the way. Go Eagles.

I know for football it's got to be a tough sell to recruits. They have to bring them in on games they are playing Toledo, WMU, or CMU, because those will be the highest attended (by visiting team).

EMU football players are of 2 catagories (with a few exceptions):
1. EMU was the recruits best offer.
2. The recruit was passed over by all other D-I schools.
