How It Happened:
VCU got off to a quick 12-4 lead over the first eight minutes of play, including a 12-1 run after Fordham got on the board first. Jordan Burgess and Lewis kicked off the scoring for VCU with a pair of threes.

VCU extended their lead to 22-8 after Jarred Guest collected an offensive rebound that led to an open three for Burgess, who ended the evening with nine points and seven rebounds.

Fordham responded with a quick 7-0 run, but Graham extended the Rams lead to double digits at 25-15 with a triple from the top of the key.
Closing the first half, Rob Brandenberg knocked down a trey from the left corner and a deep buzzer beating three from the right wing, giving VCU a 40-23 advantage at the break.

Weber opened the second half scoring for the Rams with a steal and one handed breakaway dunk.

Fordham converted a run of consecutive baskets to draw within 12 at 44-32.

At the fourteen-minute mark in the second half, Johnson sunk a floater from the baseline preceding a monster block at the rim for Mo Alie-Cox, helping to preserve the 16-point lead.

Trading baskets during the middle portion of the second half, Weber found Johnson for a catch and shoot three from the left wing with ten minutes to play, giving VCU a 64-46 advantage.

VCU extended their lead to 18, 64-46, after a putback layup by Reddic and a three in transition by Johnson with 6:09 to play.

Continuing to score, VCU got a scoop shot from Johnson and a pair of free throws from Alie-Cox that ended a 14-2 run with 4:31 to play.
