Whoever is responsible for the new UAB tags needs to...not be responsible for them anymore.

I was hoping the UAB tags would get refreshed, they had been the same since 2001 and the Alabama and Auburn tags got updated twice. I believe the schools are responsible for the design (or the Alumni society).

The old design looked good but was very dated. The new one is just, blah. Don't think I'll be getting one.

Wow.

I was going to my wife and I UAB tags when it came to be that time...not now.

That's really unfortunate.
Guess I will keep my current one. As long as I always renew online, they shouldn't ever issue me a new plate. I occasionally still see the old school dragon tags from time to time.

They are supposed to issue you a new plate when the design changes regardless if you're renewing or not. Some people keep putting the stickers on the old plates, though. Not sure of the legality of that. (and it's definitely not legal if your old plate and new plate have different numbers, but most people personalize them anyway)
Yeah, that's really plain Jane. On the positive side, they added a 6th digit, which will be better for personalizing.
Isn't the whole point is to support the school thru the custom plate. Who cares how snazzy they are.

Part of it is to advertise the school through the plate, too. I'll just give them the extra $50 directly.

I do. I can give them the money direct. I like my cool looking dragon plates!
So I get it.
"I going to show everyone I support the Blazers as long as I look good doing it."
Those are horrible. I hope there is a way to keep my old one.
looks like I waited too long to replace my damaged tag.
I'll keep my old one as long as I can.
I'll keep the my old one as long as I can too. That thing is terrible looking. God forbid the new license plate look like we support athletics at UAB.
The tag doesn't support athletics, per se. It goes to the general scholarship fund.
Cant you just write the DMV or school and enoigh feedback might lead to a reprinting of the old plate or just talk with your wallet.
It doesn't look bad, but it's just so boring.

I wonder if they removed the dragon to be more inclusive of the entire UAB network instead of just the academic side...

To me Blaze represents the school as a whole. Its hard to have traditions when people keep changing things. I always liked the Blaze tag with 5 alpha/numeric spaces.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Blaze is officially only the mascot for the athletic program, not even the university as a whole, and definitely not for UAB Health System.
It's just a piece of metal.
I don't wanna sound paranoid and say it's a BOT plot... But they're so damn petty it wouldn't surprise me.

The Blaze tag is pro-spirit and should represent everyone. The new tag is very generic.
