Now that the blah has officially endorsed Collins, it is time for all us Rocket faithful to get the word out on Mayor Bell, and get people to vote in Nov.! I'm not sure about all the political opinions of those on this message board, but I would like to express my opinions on Mayor Bell and why I think he should be re-elected. Mayor Bell is the best mayor that we have ever had in Toledo and is great for UT as well! The reason the blah will not endorse Bell is for the simple reason that they can't control him like they did other mayors. Mayor Bell is the right man for Toledo! Could you ask for a better diplomat for not just Toledo, but for our entire region? I have heard from numerous communities that the first time they were ever invited to the Mayor's office in Toledo was with Mike in office! He is doing the right things for Toledo and is not a puppet to special interest groups or unions. Regardless if you are a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent - Mayor Bell represents us all and does it fairly and without bias! He also loves the City and UT, and is always promoting us positively - across our region and abroad. We don't see all the great things that Mayor Bell is doing - because the blah doesn't want us to know about it. I love how he always looks to work together with others and to make things better, not pointing the finger. Regarding the editorial today that condemned Mayor Bell for not being completely transparent with regard to development, I can tell you all from experience that most developers do not want information to come out too soon, and many times the agreements have to be confidential to protect their investments. If information on these developments gets out too soon - it can kill a development. I also do not think that the gang map was a necessity to be published by the blah - simply an opportunity for them to make a stink about the Mayor's office not providing the info. The article brought absolutely nothing positive about Toledo. The blah's only purpose for that article was to try to correlate negatives with the current administration. Crime is down in Toledo and we are hiring police officers - more than ever. We have a balanced budget and he is the most charismatic, and positive Mayor we have ever had. I hope we can keep him for 4 more years!!!

GO MAYOR BELL!!! GO ROCKETS!!!
Knew Mike at the U. He was a good guy and a leader. Always a friendly hello and a smile for everybody on campus. Hard to believe there is a better leader for Toledo that would do a better job of serving everybodys' interests. Obviously he's not in "The Blade's" hip pocket and is a friend of UT's. Good luck Mike.
bell turned his back on the fireman's union and installed these god awful speed cameras which do nothing but generate money whether you're speeding or not.

collins is in cahoots with carty.....we cant win either way.

He did what was best for the city not the unions. Council had to approve the cameras, he didn't do it by himself.

"Turned his back on the fireman's union..." You make it sound like a bad thing. Unions have run their course. They USED to be needed. Not anymore.
Mayor Bell has certainly done more to feature UT as a part of the city than any of his predecessors over the past 40 years.
Well wasn't he previously in the same union himself? So, even though he was in the union he stood up to it as mayor? I think that's the kind of person you want leading your city; not a "union guy."

I like a guy who is strong for UT. He may not be perfect, but no one is. At least he hasn't made the city look like it was run by a ranting nutball.
Rocket Man might get some push back on saying Mike is the best mayor ever but in my 40+ years in Toledo he is certainly the most progressive, forward thinking and humble mayor that I have seen. When you look at how he immediately put up new welcome to Toledo signs with the UT logo on them you had to know he was not out for himself. This community and region needs to have our major institutions working together for a common good. IMHO Mike has begun that process and will continue to do so. Don't know Mr. Collins but when one looks at his record and the fact that he will be beholden to the union politicos Toledo can not afford to go backwards from what Mike has set in motion. Screw the Blah! Vote for Bell.

You're right. Carty was a Michigan fan. When Toledo played and BEAT Michigan he was hanging out with the Michigan coach, Rodriquez.
Can't vote but if I could I'd vote for Bell. He inherited a mess and has things moving in
the right direction, IMO.
One of the better election choices I can recall.

Mayor Bell doesn't appear to have anything personal against his former union or anything to personally gain in making a decision that hit those union members in the pocket book.

IMO, Collins is getting a little confrontational, beating a dead horse on the budget issue that resulted in the decision hitting city worker wages and short sighted in thinking an independent can keep the vote by pandering to a clearly aligned demographic. I've nothing against Unions and most certainly have seen too much under-skilled management in this city to believe that Unions have run their course but he'd also be wise to remember that people in Temperance, Sylvania, and Maumee do not vote so pandering to blue collar Unions probably isn't going to gain him many votes.

If he's to gain enough to pass Mayor Bell AND stay in good graces, he needs to stop the rhetoric and get business on his board and off Bell's. He needs to stay far away from Ford's impossible to fund social programs and work on bringing value added jobs into the city.

Firefighters off the streets?

Anyhow, the answer to your question is 40 miles north.
I don't always agree with what he does because he's more diplomatic than am I, but he manages to get the best results from any given situation. Good man, good mayor. I wouldn't vote for someone just because the Blade doesn't like him. It's just a bonus in this situation.

Maybe he has a good feel for how many fires in Toledo should be put out vs how many ought to just be left to burn! 03-lmfao
He has my vote. He's had to make some tough decisions at a critical time for the city. His enormous charisma, creative thinking and unwillingness to pander to the entrenched interests serves the city well. At a time when Toledo could have been on the brink of a Detroit-like situation, his pragmatic leadership and broad vision has positioned Toledo in such a way as to warrant a second term. His affinity for UT is a win win for the region. My wish is that he would abolish the surveillance cameras and streamline the bureaucracy to make Toledo more business friendly without eroding the tax base.
Nice stache
