First of all, Legion Field and athletics department negotiations about volunteer stuff are still going, just slowly. I know Memphis Blazer is stoked to hear that not much has happened yet.

As either a compliment, or an alternative, to this endeavor, here's another idea. Since people hate Legion Field, some contend it's not truly our home and affords little home-field advantage, and we will have small crowds most of the time until we start winning or playing more interesting opponents, why don't we just play 3 or 4 home games and play our conference schedule as really cheap buy games?

We could do three or 4 home games that will draw well: 1. Homecoming with a local team - Samford, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, or Jacksonville State. 2. An alternating home-and-home with South Alabama and Troy, meaning either the South Alabama or Troy game will be a home game each year, and 3. one of the closer conference games, like Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee.

Our 4th OOC game would be a big money game that is nearby, e.g. LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia, etc.

Then we could play our entire conference schedule on the road, every year, for a small payday - 100k to 250k, depending on how far away the schools are and what they can afford. UTSA or Marshall, for example, may be okay with giving us 250k a year in exchange for never having to come to Legion Field, and I'm sure their fans would appreciate not having to travel as well. They may even come out ahead in ticket sales.

Is there a rule against playing too many road games? I know some years we play 7.

The additional revenue could go towards our stadium/ facilities funding.

That's a worse idea than playing at the Met.

Elaborate. I don't see a single negative. How much do we benefit from playing in front of 6,000 people against Rice?

1. FBS rules require 5 home game per season.
2. UAB hasn't won an OOC road game in 8 years. You want more of them?
gimme gimmes

What this program needs is wins. Playing 8-9 games on the road isn't going to make that happen.
Have you ever heard of home field advantage? Just because we seemingly don't have one doesn't mean other places don't. Do you ever want to win 6 games?

Yes, I've heard of it, but I don't think anyone considers Rice or FIU as being scary places to play. What this program needs is money so it can turn itself into a winner.

It's getting on a plane and flying to unfamiliar territory. It may not be scary, but the crowd isn't the only reason a home field advantage exists.
Send your idea to the conference office. Please post their reply here (mostly for our entertainment)

It's against the rules. We have to have at least 5 home games. What's funnier - this idea or losing 10 games and having no money, embarrassing attendance numbers, and inadequate facilities?

You are trying to convince us that playing as few home games as possible is good for UAB. You know who else whores themselves out? SWAC basketball teams. Has that money done them any good?

We are on much more stable ground institutionally than HBCUs, no matter how hard the BOT tries to keep us down.

Actually, I think your lack of understanding of scheduling is what I found funny

As one of the 6,000 there every ******* game, I'd like more home games, not less, even if it is at Legion Field.

Geez, want to run off UAB's remaining fans? Make them pony up for an all road schedule.
While UAB is thinking outside the box, how about hitting the UA Athletic Department up for a low interest long term loan for some of their spare millions they don't need for waterfalls and such? They don't NEED the money and UAB FB could certainly use it. And we are, after all, supposed to be family, right?
