Great!
As we all know, there are two parts to hiring new coaches. They have to be who we want to hire, and they, in turn, have to want to be with us. We hope our staff gets who they most want.
We just let go two good coaches. I bet they wish they could get one more year. More talent, and a new year. Years of bad recruiting on that side. SMDH
I think he is making a good choice if he's made a move. You have to make sure you make big changes if you do. Gives him a chance to get guys the D-coordinator is familiar with. It helps with teaching something new. Most coaches can change to fit in multiple systems with experience. You want to avoid learning on both ends. The guys that stay should be ok though. We'll see.
"Good" coaches are getting fired or forced out every year. They just hit a dead spot and the school decides it needs to make a change at some level. Mack Brown did not suddenly become a "bad" coach, he made some poor choices of assistants for his program and now he is on his way out. Texas just doesn't want to wait to find out if he could revive the program in the next couple of seasons. Coaches today are just too expensive to be given any time to "right the ship" like Bryant was in 1970 and 1971 (when he went 6-5). Mike Shula and Ed Orgeron are decent examples.
Why do you insist on writing about Bryant on this board?
Because he is being disruptive, and he is allowed to do so.

Just be glad that Bull Connor wasn't brought up somehow.

I truly don't see a difference between that and most of the stuff that has been sent to the smack board recently.

Or teacher's pay.
Took courage and mission focus to fire your friends and close associates. Good Luck to all involved.
As a HR Director for biotech firm, the timing for firing /letting someone go is never ideal. You have to look at it through the lens of "what is best for the organization." For the betterment of our football program, I hope this tuns out to be the right decision. It is also a good to see coach McGee act like a leader, make the tough decisions and think strategic.

They were responsible for the worst defense in the entire country. They are terrible coaches, and they absolutely needed to go.
I don't think they are terrible coaches, there is no need for personal attacks. Coaching is a cut and dried, bottom-line business. Win your games, get rewarded, get raises, move up in status and the schools you coach at. Lose a lot and get sacked.

It's really that simple. What they were trying to do did not work out, and they got sacked due to poor results. That does not mean that they might not take another job, for another DC running the same or a different scheme and do very well. It does mean that they didn't get it done here and changes were necessary.

Okay. Show me evidence that they are any good. I didn't attack them personally. I said they are bad at their jobs. Their defenses let opposing teams put up too many yards and score too many points. We were ranked 118th in the country this year. How can you say that they are not bad coaches? Is our talent disparity really that great? Is Southern Miss really 30+ points better than we are based on talent? Absolutely not. They were paid money to do a job. They did that job poorly.

If they were terrible coaches, why did McGee hire them to begin with?. Not only did he hire them, but both got to serve as the DC at one point, and one of them the assistant HC.
