Good morning. One of our fellow Blazertalkers alerted us to a local TV news witch hunt targeting UAB Football and its' "future."...Ever since the "Dewey Crowes" met their Waterloo on the Plains, they've been locked and loaded on Blazers Football to besmirch. First time, it was Fox 6 a week or two ago (by the way, I tweeted Alan Collins to establish some dialogue with him on the subject and to my "surprise", no reply), now, not to be outdone by the competition, WVTM-NBC 13 is going to "follow the buzzards" with their own "special" news report tonight at 10 p.m., "The Future Of UAB Football". Saw the trailer on it last night during the Steelers - Bengals game.

Guess they got nothing better to do since their beloved crimson turd got "Auburnized" and are no longer in the mythical national championship conversation. Anyway, I didn't see the "story" by Collins, so I can't make a comparison if I choose to take the risk of watching 13's news garbage. Hopefully, "Monday Night Raw" will run into overtime tonight, and I'll conveniently forget all about watching this drivel...Or is it something we as Blazer football fans should sit up and take notice to?
No such thing as bad publicity

I'm sure you'll be singing the same tune when your mugshot is all over the internet the next time you get arrested.

Seriously, what a dumb comment.

Something tells me you won't since you made a thread about it.

It's because BlazerTalkers are obsessed with threads and topics like these that this piece was even considered.
Never been arrested so there is no next time. Stop projecting your own experiences onto me.
Riddle me this, what expertise does NBC 13 have on anything related to this topic?

(answer - none)

Next topic.

Your "overuse" of "quotations marks" seems to "suggest" that you have been "hanging out" with Bamanblazerfan and his "tendencies" are "rubbing off" on you.
nbc, whats that?

It's just a virus on the library computers that puts quotation marks around everything.

So, "where there's smoke, there's fire" doesn't apply here? One "death to UAB Football" TV story can be chalked up to boredom, fishing or just plain journalistic spite, but what about two within a week or two of one another?

And because I missed the one by Collins, I admit, I may be inclined to tune in and hear what they have to say, and tender a response to whoever ran the story, because if we as fans don't stick up for our football team, who will? But given my propensity for forgetfulness, I may very well get caught up in something else I'm watching on another channel, because outside of NFL Football or NHL Hockey, NBC and their affiliate station here is not on my radar. We stand poised to return fire when something less than flattering is posted or written at al.sux with little or no hesitation. Why should alleged cheap shots like this go without a observation or more being tendered by Blazer football fans if they so desire?
i wish somebody will do a real investigation ABOUT why UAB football is not very good .
The Reason number one is the practice facility .
Why practice facility are not good ..every blazers fans know the answer .....

Precisely the kind of insight that needs to be conveyed to or bombarded on these local media types. On one hand, many of us have complained openly about the lack of coverage given our athletic program, now they're doing something, although it's unfavorable to many, it's something that gives us a chance to let them know our feelings and concerns and what needs to be addressed. I don't see why we can't seize the opportunity to at least take a run at using this to our advantage somehow.
They wont ask any blazers fans what it is wrong with UAB football and how to fix it .

Just asking, provided that you saw it(which I haven't as of yet), was this the way Alan Collins presented his story on Fox6? Pretty much one-sided?

One of those internet/facebook/twitter things like LOL, ROTFLMAO etc - Nothing But C*cks
Unless Collins has been around the UAB program long enough to be aware of the BOTs entire "Body of Work" with regard to the UAB FB program, he may only be repeating what he has heard from other writers who are not going to risk making that BOT angry.

Most "investigative reporting' by local media consists of asking what the subject they are most influenced by what they want printed/reported.
Well the story is coming up next
Meh... Wish we had a spokesperson who wasn't Tony Kurre. They completely ignored the issues with facilities that aren't Legion Field. Pretty much didn't say anything that hasn't been recapitulated a thousand times.
It wasn't too bad. Touched on the stadium, it being old and in a bad area, and the issue with getting one on campus. Some talk about a perceived slight by the trustees and only one trustee willing to speak and Mackin covering his ass. Which I understand its his job on the line, but man you would like someone to grow some balls and just say screw it and lay it all out on the table one day.
They did actually have some fans, actual UAB alum and students that spoke highly of the program and even stated that we aren't trying to compete with AU or ua. We just want to be competitive on the same level of our peers. It didn't leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling but I didn't want to kick the screen either.
