Good read. O'Leary was a proven HC when he got to UCF though...........winning record (53-32) over a 8 year period at Georgia Tech. Seems like Notre Dame hired him after that, then fired him over something he made up on his resume (?).
McGee has made no excuses about his 5-19 record, but it's time for him to get some help. Anything I can do as a fan, I will. We might have to get creative to do it, but UAB Athletics has to get something positive going for football. Scheduling home-and-home with Georgia State and our recruiting announcement today are both good positives.

Where's the part about his team going 4-8 the year after the rebound? Where's the mention of his staff and him basically killing one of his students 5 years ago? How about his faking having a degree? What about him getting Georgia Tech put on probation?

As I recall, O'Leary stated in his resume that he had played and started at the U of New Hampshire. When he was signed by ND, a local NH writer thought a story about a local player making it to coach at ND would be a great story for the paper. What he found, however, was that O'Leary had actually never (or barely) even made the team there, much less being a starter. The writer had not set out to hurt O'Leary, it just happened that was the effect of the truth, and O'Leary resigned the ND job. UCF later "picked up the pieces" and the rest is actual history.

You would be wrong and that's not actual history.
Actually, all you have to do is a quick Google search to find the reason Notre Dame didn't hire him. It had nothing to do with his claiming he played and lettered at New Hampshire (though he had claimed that previously and it was also proven false). He wasn't hired at Notre Dame because he had claimed to have earned a master's degree he had, in fact, never earned.

It also helps to have a very supportive fan base and board of regents to see that you're properly equipped with effective facilities, & that your name is not Ellis Johnson.
I'm glad that O'Leary got thru his dark period in time to enjoy the fruits of their success. They've only gotten better since they got that OCS, and next year, they'll have Jackie Williams on their team! Only one way to go from there....#GoJackie
