How many bad losses can one conference have? Especially one that prides itself on being stronger than most will admit to?
Wichita (0) They're holding their own and doing what they're supposed to. Wins over BYU and SLU are good wins. DePaul won't be when things start shaping up in the RPI.
Drake (0) Only loss to a very good SMC team. And the Pups weren't expected to do anything this year and were picked anywhere from 8-10 in conference. The win at Fresno was a good win.
Missouri State (0) Only loss to a good Virginia team. Again, most didn't expect much from MSU this season. Improvement, but not this kind of start. Beating aTm was a good win.
UNI (0-2) For a team with 4 losses, they seem to be holding their own. Losses against Milwaukee and George Mason could go either way.
Indiana State (1) How did they lose to Tulsa? Tulsa isn't anywhere close to a good team. If they want to compete with Wichita for the MVC title, they can't be losing to teams like that in conference.
Evansville (1) Murray State... They lost to an MSU team that had yet to win a D1 game... I won't be surprised if they lose to Jackson State later this month either...
Bradley (1) IUPUI? One of the worst teams in basketball and they lost. They were also blown out by both Illinois and Arizona State. Losing is one thing, but not being in the game at all is almost as bad. I could count those blowouts and give them 3.
Illinois State (1) Vermont sucks. Also, getting beat by 30+ against anyone should count as a bad loss but I'm feeling generous today. So I won't throw the VCU beatdown in here.
Loyola (4-5) 5 if Mississippi State sucks more than I expect. Tennessee Tech, Portland State, Tulane and UC-Davis are teams the MVC shouldn't lose to. I give Loyola a slight pass as they should get a couple of years to upgrade their team to compete in the MVC. I thought they may be a little more prepared but I guess I was wrong.
SIU (4) Austin Peay, St. Bonaventure, San Diego and Chicago State... Poor Barry and the horrible situation he took on in Carbondale.
So that's anywhere from 12 to 18 bad losses. Not just losses, bad losses. There are 29 total losses in the conference and roughly half can be classified as bad.
I'm starting to think that Wichita has a legit chance of running the conference table. I'd be absolutely shocked if they lose more than 2 games and they should be favorites in all of them.
