This thread might die quietly, but I thought I'd start it anyway and see if anybody had any thoughts about it. A couple of things triggered a question:

1. Mark Beier said over the weekend that he thought the Rockets would host a subregional of the 2014 2K Sports Classic

2. BG is in the Cancun Challenge

So, is there an early season tournament you'd like to see the Rockets (men's team or women's team) in? Chaminade's tournament in Hawaii? The Great Alaska Shootout? (that's my pick) Cancun? Puerto Rico? Virgin Islands?

I know that's not a complete list. Being in the 2K Sports Classic again next year (if UT is) doesn't do much for me. So if there's a tournament you'd like to see the Rockets play in (other than the one in March of course; we'd all like to see that, so that's a given) weigh in here.
Love to see them in PR. My BIL is a professor at UPR and that means free accomodations. Not to mention sun, ocean, friendly people and excellent coffee. Rocket hoops would be the cherry on top.
Not that I would be able to attend any of those locations, but I would vote for either Alaska (lost some of its luster from being the "original" but still a unique place for the team to visit) or Puerto Rico--nice spot for the team to visit and seems like it has become the "it" early-season tournament lately, kinda like Alasks used to be.

Didn't one of Joplin's teams play in Hawaii? Maybe not a tournament, though?
I want any tourny that has an actuap bracket! Puerto rico, maui, and charleston are all prime tournys that you have to prove yourself before getting invited. Alaska would be awesome
I agree on the true bracket comment, the format didn't make sense to me, wish we could have somehow made it to MSG. Not sure why the 2k is called a tournament except to probably get around some goofy ncaa rules regarding in-season tournaments. I wouldn't care where the team would travel, because I'd most likely not be able to go unless it was a drivable location. I'd want to play some quality teams in a fun location for the kids, maybe get a tv game or two out of it. The Alaska tourney was always fun to watch on TV, not sure why it lost some luster?

AT UDM, turn out for the non-Detroit teams was as expected, but a little suprised at the home game turnout for our game vs. Detroit. Maybe 500 fans with 1/3 being UT fans. You would think our home attendance would dwarf the number that bothered attending in Detroit. If we're hosting next year, the attendance might be slightly better for UNC-Charlotte vs. Ark St. or whoever participates, but I wouldn't expect 2k to show up for a random game. Savage is a much better venue than Callighan Hall.

Yeah, the references to "historic CallihanHall" was a lipstick on a pig type thing.
I tried to use a credit card for my tickets at the ticket office and they had no way to run the card. WTF? Bush League. I could see if the place was full, it would be rocking. The seats go pretty much straight up.
yea the first day i used my card at the concessions, and it took forever. they had a laptop with a card scanner connected to it for credit card purchases
Like to see UT in the Orange Bowl Tournament. UMass is playing FSU in the first round this season..
I have no idea how accurate this site is, but it looks like the fields for some of the 2014-15 early season tournaments are being announced. Doesn't look like the Rockets will be in Anchorage or Puerto Rico next season. No mention of Toledo at all as of today. Here's a link.

I agree with everybody who says true bracket tournaments. Tournaments with the match-ups already set (2KSports, Coaches v. Cancer, etc.) don't do much for the schools not set for the semifinals. The non-semifinal schools get very little in terms of sponsorship money and get nothing towards strength of schedule. This year, UDM, FAU, and Stony Brook will do nothing for UT's strength of schedule (Stony Brook has been good over the last few years, but they're still in the America East, one of the weakest conferences in the country and their RPI will plummet once they get in conference).
