There are fifteen players on Purdues roster. Twelve players are from Indiana, two players are from Illinois, and one player is from the state of Washington.

It doesn't make a lick of sense, to me, for Isaac to have turned down an invitation to play his college days, right here in his home state.

That, I will never understand.

Me? My Homes In Alabama...and always will be. Go Blazers!

There are probably things I care about less than this, but at the moment, I'm drawing a blank.
Some people just want to get out of Alabama, which I completely understand.

Why you'd wanna leave Birmingham for Winston-Salem or West Lafayette? I don't know. Definitely a step down. But the kid has the right to choose where he wants to play, so good luck to him.
It is hard to understand his rationale. He could have played in front of his parents and relatives every home game, and with fellow players he is already friends with from prep ball. I don't know much about Purdue since Gene Cady left.

This may be a recruit we lost because of conference affiliation. I sense he didn't think UAB was a big enough stage for him and wanted to play in a "power" conference out of state. Of course, if all goes according to plan, UAB will be a more powerful team than Purdue during his college years. I do think it is his loss, but wish him well.

Agree with you regarding your first statement. But how do you know Winston-Salem or West Lafayette is a step down for Haas? He's from a small town and maybe that is why Winston-Salem and now West Lafayette appeals to Haas.

My personal opinion is that playing in the ACC or Big Ten was more attractive to Haas than playing for a school closer to your home and CUSA.
Maybe Jordan Swing should talk to him about how bad it $ucks to sit out a year when he wants to transfer back home. Assuming we have a roster spot... 03-puke

Their coach has been the Big Ten Coach of the year 3 times. Starting in 2006-07(his second year) he took Purdue to the tournament every year until that streak ended last year. He went to 2 Sweet Sixteens and advanced at least once in every tournament.

UAB has been to one tournament(as the play in game) in that time frame. Let's stop putting Haas and Purdue down because he chose them over us. It isn't his loss to go to a solid Big Ten school.
Yeah, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Would we have loved too have had him? Absolutely! But the great thing is that we have a coach who didn't hinge the entire recruiting class on one player and we are still in very good shape.

I feel like a few years down the road, we'll be the school that a kid like Haas chooses and that is thanks to the great work the coaching staff is doing now and that class that we've already signed and the work i think they will put in to make UAB a front-runner in the future. No reason to overthink this one instance.
We need to win games. If we do that, guys are going to want to come to UAB. We were in a lot of top 5's with a coach entering the season with a career record under .500. That speaks volumes about his ability to recruit. Now, throw some 20 win seasons together, and guys are going to want to come to UAB before Haase even starts recruiting them.
I never said Purdue was a bad program. I know too much about college basketball to make that mistake. I'm just don't understand that if getting out of Alabama and playing for a power conference team were the big factors for him, why would he choose those specific teams? Why go from small town to another small town in a far away place where your parents, friends, and relatives can't easily see you play? I guess that's not important to him though, and I wish him luck. I'm really not upset about him choosing Purdue, I just don't really understand that choice.
He thinks he could be more visible nationally in the ACC or Big10 and at this moment he's right. Also, his skills are much better suited for a half court type of offense, not the style we run. Haas tried to make the best choice for him at the this point based on all these factors.
Wasted energy.
He is a big boy & can make up his own mind.
Time to move on.
My comment wasn't intended to put Haas, Purdue, or anyone else down. A kid who's not going to play for my Blazers stopped interesting me the minute he decided he was going to play someplace not UAB.

I don't wish him or Purdue ill will. I'm just not throwing either roses or curses.

I've got my own problems. 03-lol
Maybe his decision went something like this:

Do I want to play a CUSA schedule where I am rarely on TV playing in 3/4 empty arenas and at the end of a season, I am hoping my team will be the only team chosen for the NCAA out of the conference.

Or

Do I want to play a Big 10 schedule where almost every game is televised and I play before packed stadiums on my own conference TV network. At the end of the season, my chances of being in the NCAA tournament is stronger because multiple teams are in the NCAA tournament, increasing my exposure and chances to make the NBA.

I hope we get every player we want, but to not understand why he might choose a big 10 school over a CUSA school is pretty easy to understand

So, to reiterate, you are NOT TheGORILLA.

yep
& he is not the walrus.
I think purdue has another 7'0 tall player and a 6'10 player on their roster or in the signing class.

Indeed, lest there be any confusion. 03-lol
Wish we could have gotten this kid, would have made a great addition to the roster, but this staff already proven they can recruit, so I see them still getting a good fit for the program.
