According to this article it will happen next year. Although the article is about ODU it includes info on conference changes.

So we will play
UTEP
North Texas
Rice
UTSA
La Tech and
So Miss
in the West Division

and then 2 teams in the east.

I hope we get to go to MTSU, I would enjoy a Nashvegas trip. Otherwise I don't see any east schools I want to visit for a road trip.

I hope there's a trip to ODU in Norfolk.
Well with playing the in the western division the only thing that can be assured is that we won't get any traveling fans from Rice, UTSA, UNT, UTEP. Maybe La Tech will bring some. So Miss usually does. I was actually hoping to stay in east because of Marshall, WKU, MTSU are all relatively close and MTSU and Marshall have brought decent crowds.

We will only play schools in the east once every 3 years and then its only a 50% chance of being on the road. We will visit Norfolk once every 6 years, just like we will visit the other east schools once every 6 years.

Wow, more respectful than most of our own fans.

Honest self evaluation or self critique is the hardest. Its always easier to get a true perspective from the outside, that is why consultants are used so much.
Since I live in Dallas I am thrilled with this. 4 easy road trips. But I can certainly understand the Birmingham folks gripes with this. I would like to see us adopt a permanent cross division rival in football so we could cultivate the MTSU rivalry.

Well wasn't that nice. Kinda puts things in a different view for some. And like BlazerfromMD said "Honest self evaluation or self critique is the hardest".

Thanks for attributing those wise words to me. 03-lmfao
This is just Harry Minium's educated guess, which is the same thing most of us have assumed for months. The divisions have not been decided yet.

Yep

That was a nice read. North Texas just went up in my book. I really liked their team too.....watched them clobber Rice the other night!
Southwest Airlines will be our friend. I travel to Houston every now and then anyway. Sometimes nonstop sometimes through Dallas. Not a big deal.
This arrangement is certainly one way to do it, but it may also be reasonable to have a Texas+LA Tech+Miami Division opposite the traditionally east schools in Football. For the non-football sports no division or a more geographic east/west may be more practical because of the driving those sports do, but Miami is a long drive from east schools and as a major airport local won't suffer greatly from having to fly across the Gulf of Mexico for their games.
My main concern was whether or not this would hurt us for basketball. If there are no divisions in basketball, I'm okay with playing in the west for football even though I would still have preferred to be playing in the east.
As of right now no divisions in basketball.

LaTech can't draw for home games and won't follow the team on the road, even if their winning. I sat in the stands one year when they beat UA (finished 9-2) and they brought maybe 1,000 or less to the game.
Perhaps a rotation like the SEC uses might be worked out in C-USA. The SEC has one cross divisional foe played every year with all the others rotating through a pattern of 2 year H&H games. Bama plays UTK and AU plays UGA every year while other east teams rotate on and off periodically. Could it be worked out that UAB and MTSU (as an example) might have such an arrangement if UAB is moved to the western division?
