The academic and membership affairs staff determined that a prospective student-athlete who intends to graduate from high school midyear and enroll at a member institution midyear during the same academic year (e.g., spring semester) may sign an institutional financial aid agreement on or after August 1 of his or her senior year, provided the institution issuing the financial aid agreement establishes, prior to issuing the agreement, that the prospective student-athlete is enrolled in all coursework necessary to graduate from high school at midyear.
The early football signing period.
Under the standards of the present 24 credit requirement for high school graduation with a standard diploma in Alabama, what are the logistics for getting into position to graduate in December?
Take 24 credits before December.
Are you sure it isn't 28 credits?

We were on a block schedule.
4 classes per semester.
28 credits thru 7 semesters.
cut out the 8th semester by finishing up in the fall of your senior year.
You can have 32 possible credits. Depending on whether you have taken all of your required classes before your senior year. I thought 28 was required with 4 credits to spare, in case you failed a class that was required for your advanced, standard, or occupational diploma.

I had 24 credits going into the fall of my senior year. They made me take 3 classes in the fall and 1 in the spring.

Am I right?
With some districts switching to various forms of "block schedules" and some remaining on other daily periods per day, I don't know the current count of credits that may be earned as a state requirement. That is why I asked. It used to be 6 periods per day X 4 years = 24 credits. B'ham City ran 4 90 minute blocks per day (one block was extended 30 minutes to allow time for the lunch period) alternating M-W-F with one schedule and T-TH for the other with the pattern reversed each week for the same number of half credits per semester. Summer school used to allow for some to get ahead of schedule, but all must now take a full schedule even in their senior year.

In the 1970s, an Alabama high school student was required to take 4 credits in English, 3 credits in History, 2 credits in Math and one credit in Science with 4 credits in PE and then they chose electives like Music, Art, Foreign language and Voc Ed classes to fill out their total of 16 to 18 credits to graduate. With the now required 32 credits, one can see that there is much more the student must accomplish than ever before.
So...kids can sign early, huh?
the school is bound to the kid by a signed schollie.

However the kid will not be able to sign a NLI until normal time so kid can still go anywhere (old days the conferences by own rules honored it)

It is for all sports not just football.
