Is it time to have Jake Ganus go back to Safety or is he now to big for that position?

He looks great where he's at.......leading the team in tackles by a long shot.
Leave him be...
I think he would be good at safety. I think he's stellar where he's at. I'd leave him
I don't think safety is our problem
He isn't perfect but our defense would be much better if we had a couple more Jakes. No one consistently gives more effort.
That's one thing that isn't broke so don't fix it. Leave him where he is.
He played quarterback in high school, maybe we should move him to QB.
I say leave him be. He & Slaughter held their own at LB, they were, IMO, the only defensive players that displayed toughness and testicular fortitude this past Saturday.

I wouldn't mind a couple more Slaughters and another Burdette or two on the way, either.

I disagree. I think safety is a big weakness. How many seam and slant routes have been completed against us? I'd guess more than 2/3 of the passing yards against us have come between the hashes. You could say that is a function of a lack of pressure on the opposing quarterback but it is also poor coverage in the middle of the field.
Ganus is way too valuable now at LB. I don't see how you could move him now & not see a drop off on defense.

Safeties aren't usually responsible for slant routes, that falls on the CB and OLB depending on coverage scheme.

I didn't mean to imply that our safety play is outstanding, just not the main problem. I believe that if you left everything else alone and put an all American safety back there, the improvement would be minimal (we'd still give up >400 yards). So moving the best defensive performer we've had (further weakening us up front) back to safety...I think is a bad idea
With that said, who do you think this secret player is that will be moved to safety?

One who played back there last year and is now catching passes would be my best guess If it isnt Jake.

I agree.
+3 LOL
The problem with the secondary, especially the safties is youth. Kids just out of high school typically don't have the strength to consistently tackle college wrs and tes without being dragged a bit. Fau ran through a lot tackles on sat and both they and vandy toook advantage of our inexperience back there.
Could also be TJ McCollum or Jay Davis if he's reday to return...or even Jimmie Jean.
