While in reality I realize it's likely to be a combination of things, what do you think is the main obstacle to UAB becoming a respectable football program?

1. Mentality
2. Coaching
3. Recruiting
4. Facilities
Tradition
I think it is a combination of mentality and facilities (both would improve recruiting).
All of the above
Expectations. I fail to understand why anyone boldly predicted a result that has only happened once in nearly 20 years of D1 football-or why McGee is unable to field a team that can beat a rising bowl-bound Vanderbilt program.
Not win just play, This team didn't play.
Does anyone realize our only true terrible loss was to Troy due to the way we let them come back on us.
LSU is a top 25 ranked team and Vanderbilt is actually not the Vanderbilt of old. We'll get a real idea of our defense come next week. Not trying to pump sunshine, but just refusing to walk out on the ledge because of 2 losses to a ranked $ec team and a rising $ec team. Now after next week's game, then we can guage the suckage.

It's not just the final outcome, it's the content of the game. Can anyone point to anything that has improved, at all? Stupid penalties, stupid coaching, dropped balls, defense that leaks like a sieve.

The white uniforms? Just the uniforms not the helmets
When UAB wins..Birmingham wins...I am.
It will need at least 2 more class of recruiting to be decent
so far he got one full year of recruiting ..the freshman from this year
the freshman from last year were last minute recruit
it will take time
If UAB isn't in a bowl game next season, McGee should be gone. Since it is UAB, he'll probably get the standard five years of misery.

agreed...i can't figure out why every august people say things like "i see a minimum of 6 wins, maybe 9." why would we see a sudden jump in the 3 wins we've been averaging? i'll be "happy" as long as we can see improvement in the win total...we need 3 more this year to be better than last. while i dont yet predict 4 wins, its very realistic. however, peoples 8 win preseason predictions (hopes and predictions are different things) were unrealistic and just sets them up for massive meltdowns
Lack of a new on campus stadium, which is putting a huge damper on recruiting and improving attendance. Duh!
Youth.
We don't score more points than the other team.

It's not just the W-L record, it's that the team just sucks. They're not improving. A lot of mistakes, especially on the coaches' part. Some of this stuff should be better than it was last year and it is not.
I selected "facilities" because that is the basis of improving all the rest in turn. "State of the art" facilities improve recruiting, which improves talent on the field which in turn improves coaching because it is all interlocked. Earlier I asked "If we can't get the OCS right away, what facility upgrades would be most desired by our staff until the OCS is achieved?" So far to date, the only facility upgrade was the renovation of Bell gym in 2005. That is soon to be a full decade ago with no other improvements in that time, and that was the sole upgrade since 1990.

How does anyone reasonably expect an improved program and better records without competitive infrastructure while our opponents are constantly upgrading around us? There are good reasons for these deficits in infrastructure, but they don't put points on any scoreboard.

The team actually playing on the field is largely made up of 2* and 3* rated recruits. According to the usual rating standard, that means they should, at BEST, not be even expected to contribute until late in their sophomore year or sometime in their junior year. We have been playing a lot of freshmen and sophomores and we are expressing disappointment that they play as rated. Many of the factors that lead to a 4* or 5* rating for recruits are intangibles that most coaches admit "can't be taught" but are instinctive. How does UAB get these players? See my first paragraph.
