Of course our beloved Bucs will be likely playing 7 or so conference games, but that also leaves 4 non-con games to be played. I am just wondering who those teams might be. Keep in mind, our Bucs will be Div 1AA, as will most opponents.
I would hope that ETSU can land a contract to play UT. No, I have no delusions of grandeur in ETSU going into Neyland Stadium and knocking off UT. Although it would be nice to dream about, it would be reasonable to expect UT to play ETSU as a way to help support an in state school with it's program by playing a "money game" for the Bucs benefit. Such a game could put maybe a 1/2 million into the program. It would be nice to get THAT game every few years or so.
On the other hand, I wonder if ET would schedule any lower division schools of local interest. Such as Div 2 Tusculum or Carson-Newman, or possibly a Div 3 Emory & Henry.
If they are willing, a likely candidate for a non-con Div 1A opponent could be our old rival Appalachian State.
I am thinking that of the 4 non-con games, it would be reasonable to expect D1A foes like MTSU, Austin-Peay, or Memphis. A UT, Va. Tech, Wake Forest or Duke is possible. Perhaps even Spurrier at South Carolina might have pity on his native Johnson City, and help the program with an ETSU-USC game.
Who knows what it will be, but it would be a good money maker if we could get an SEC and an ACC game on the schedule each year. Just random thoughts here. Comments?
