Anyone following this plucky German's run at Wimbledon?

[Image: Sabine+Lisicki+Championships+Wimbledon+2...UVHoxl.jpg]

She's an inspiration! Reminds me of Steffi back in the day*...

Big serve, huge forehand, though she does likes to get cute sometimes with the drop shots and all that to uncertain effect.

Anyway, I'm a fan! Anyone else?

*She runs around to her forehand just like her. So kawaii /blush
Were it not for the women's bracket and their cute outfits (and BTW, strong tennis), tournaments on TV might be less than interesting for non-players.
I root for Serena. 03-weeping that she got "bounced", but, law of averages catches up with even the best in tennis. It's Lisicki's to win or lose now...

that was an amazing match.

the question now is if Lisicki can finish. she has been on the cusp of greatness for a little bit now. it's time to move to the next level.
That was one hell of a match, as was her encounter with Radwanska (?), how ironic that she came back from 3-0 deficits in the 3rd set to both the #4 & #1 seeds in Wimbledon, to win both matches. She's a lady of destiny, the way it seems, it's her time to shine.

Yeah, Radwanska is like the Bower era Southern Miss of womens' tennis-- consistent and tenacious as hell. It was a real gut-check for Lisicki late in that third set when it was anyone's match.

I am with ya on the destiny thing. The Williams era is kinda long in the tooth and there hasn't been anyone to really step in and take up the mantle. Sharapova, for example, should just stick to selling magazines.

There's just something about Lisicki. To confirm it though I guess we'll have to see a bona fide championship followed by better play on slower surfaces. She's quite the 'splendor in the grass', but not quite yet a model in the clay. 03-lmfao (I slay me... har har)
Watched the entire Womens final and happened to catch the 3rd set of the Gentlemen's final. Let's face it, the little French lady (forgot her name, Morena, I think), just minimized & marginalized Lisicki's effectiveness, she simply stopped her before she could ever get going, even though there were moments when it looked like Lisicki was going to bring it, she was her own worst enemy. When she broke down to cry after double-faulting on a serve in the 2nd set, I felt she was done, but she has nothing to feel bad about, this should propel her to achieve more moments on the grand stages of tennis, the new crop of young players are going to be fun to watch, for more reasons than one. The Gentlemen? I'd picked "The Joker" to win it all, but Mr. Murray, with an entire country cheering for him, stood in there and pulled it out, although that last game was a friggin' nail-biter, 3 match points to on the brink of a break point twice???? Man, if "Joker" had won that 10th game & broken Murray's serve, I honestly feel he was going to pull that set out at least, what happens from there would not have been for the faint of heart. But Murray won it, and I can still hear the roar of that crowd in my head, what an ovation with each point closer to the moment of triumph. And the irony of it all? Murray's the first man from the UK in 77 years to win the finals at Wimbledon...& he did it on the 7th of July...(7/7)...Congratulations to both champions and runners-up, who handled their victories and defeats with the utmost class and integrity.

I did watch the final six games of the men's final. I was rooting for Murray, although I don't follow tennis like I did years ago. I certainly didn't catch 7/7 and 77 years ago for a British victory.
Lisicki kinda self destructed. Bartoli is good but not that good. The whole thing just reminded me of a bad UAB football game.
I saw the Match point ( which went on and on it seemed ) yesterday I think in the Men's final and thought that it was pretty cool that a Brit male finally won Wimbleton after over 70 years of drought.

I think most feel Bartoli benefitted from a "perfect storm" in that higher seeds kept losing so that she got to the final and won without playing a single opponent from the top 10 seeds. As one FB coach once observed, "The sun shines on some dog's butt every day". This was perhaps her day in the sun. Will we see her in later finals down the road? Maybe she broke through with this one and will go on to be one of the "greats".
