I heard a rumor that there were press conferences on Thursday and Friday to announce new coaches. I checked the UAB site and found nothing.

Other than WBB what other coach is being replaced? (Golf coach retiring, maybe?)

Anyone on here have any "inside" info? 03-shhhh
I know McGee talked about the three new assistant coaches on the football staff at the beginning of spring practice. The only other opening that I know of is WBB.
Was thinking we would sign one more football assistant.
Didn't McGee say there was 1 more coach he was going to hire but hadn't given name or was that the ST coach?
I think football staff was finished before spring practice started.

I would guess that the new coaches would be the WBB coaches since supposedly the whole staff was going with Smith.

I don't know of any other openings.
They are hiring a Blazertalk poster to help run things since we seem to think we all know best!

THIS IS UAB! We do not have a ST coach. the last one was Hyler's wife, wasn't it?

I take it you're out of blue ink?
Quote:Matt Sanders is the new special teams coach and he will assist secondary coach Brandon Sharp.

Yep. thanks for the catch.
That still is a wonder though considering the last several years when it was *ahem* the HC's responsibility(as if they didn't have enough) and/or coached by committee(meaning whoever drew the short straw that week)
Other than covering kicks, our special teams last year were much MUCH improved.

When was the last time we blocked two punts and returned a punt for a TD in a season?

Yeah, I can't remember either.

True but I don't really attribute that to special teams coaching as much as overall attitude improvement. To do those things, you have to really want to AND believe you can. Which they damn sure did not under Head Special Teams Coach Claude.
Schemes do come into play but blocked kicks and punt returns are more often than not due to that guy who says " I will not be denied". I give credit to the new staff for fostering that mindset, rather than the former.

Hell with that, how many times did we successfully onsides kick it? Several of those were damn near perfectly executed. It wasn't like it was a secret we'd do it after two games or so.

Special teams were much better, and given the two kickers we have returning we're in good shape so far as the kicking game is concerned to start with.
Can't wait to see who Mackin hires for WBB HC

Good catch.

The on-sides kicks were both well-timed and well-executed.
