Good spot for additional parking for a future construction project on the master plan.
UAB or the city has put in 250+ parking spaces where the Board Of Education Building was demolished 2 blocks North of Bartow Arena.

I notice the parking lot was built at minimal cost without concrete or asphalt and with railroad timbers as parking space curbstops. Could it be that they don't want to have to rip it up later for something else?05-stirthepot

I guessed they were building it Green Certified and Eco-friendly. And a portion of the parking fees collected will be used for their carbon offset.

That's UAB, they got that from the city I think in the baseball swap deals.

Lots of parking lots going up. Also remember that the plan is to have a UAB operated transit system and no parking on the interior of campus. You do the math.

They should let the UAB athletics support groups and UAB non-revenue generating sports teams charge baseball game attendees for parking there.
There are a couple of those blocks that would look real nice with about a seven story parking deck. I know it's not aesthetic, just sayin'.

Nope. Those are going on the other side of I-65. Those surface lots are temporary.
It's still hard for me to get used to how much those blocks around the ball field have changed.

Yeah, I've seen the plan. If they do the area shuttle right it'll be ok I guess.

It won't kill anyone to walk a little bit either.

And once the campus shuttle is in place, the next thing may be setting up a remote north, east or west campus in another part of the city.

That's not on the master plan, and I've never heard anyone mention it. There's plenty of room right now for UAB to grow into that is contiguous to the existing campus. Some of it may be on the other side of I-65, but you won't be going to Norwood or Woodlawn.
I know. I'm not saying it was on the master, just that I have an attachment to nearby vertical parking. Most of what I remember re parking was indeed on the other side of 65.
I think Mixdup was referring to BamaBlazerfan's comments about sattelite campuses for UAB... he had mentioned in the past that he thinks a satellite campus at the current location of Legion Field is a viable option. 03-banghead
True. And in terms of Band Dad, I was referring to the fact that parking on the edge of campus won't kill anyone, everyone could stand to walk a little more.

You may have more "inside" knowledge of what property UAB owns and where it is located, but I wonder at what enrollment numbers the present "footprint" of the owned land will become too little and over saturated. Though Alabama is used to the "small enrollment school" like AU and UA are now, I see UAB being able to grow (if allowed its capabilities) to be more similar to USF and UCF in the next 30 years. UAB and USA are urban universities in the state's two largest cities (so far) and being limited to being like the limited growth rural schools is to artificially hobble their growth for sake of those older school's leader's egos. How far east and west in contiguous lands are we expected to be allowed to grow?
Also, HUC is being replaced starting this Summer. I think it will permanently take the lot across the street behind it and possibly block some street parking during demolition and construction.
UAB could stand to make some serious $$$ if it were to build parking decks near railroad park... they could be used for students and employees on weekdays; weeknights and weekends they could charge $5-$10 for Railroad Park & Regions Field visitors.

Yeah, and if we made a satellite campus we'd have to worry about them fielding a football team in 30 years.
