I compiled this list of the current UTSA football players that are on scholarship categorized by they athletic eligibility classification for the 2013 season. I do not make a distinction on who was redshirted and who wasn't nor on who's a transfer player (if you want those details, please visit the following link: http://www.goutsa.com/SportSelect.dbml?&...D=601947). I also list the incoming 2013 freshmen and JUCO's as well in their appropriate places.

The way I compiled this list is by using the past 4 signing day articles and by the knowledge that I have - based on articles that I've read, from Twitter, from the UTSA Football Insider show, etc. - on the players that were walk-ons at one point but have been awarded a football scholarship (the last couple of walk-ons who were put on scholarship within the last year or so have been Shaw, Ianno, Moeller, Ritter, Hicks, Simmons, S. Grubb, and Roper).

Please note that this is not the official UTSA list of scholarship football players; this is merely a list that I came up with that I compiled from the information that I have.

Please note that I don't have the specific position names for the incoming players listed since their positions have not been formally announced. Also, I have C. Hicks listed on there but that was because IRS stated that he was on scholarship now (citing OC Kevin Brown), plus it seemed to make the most sense to me as I was compiling this list (I had one player unaccounted for and it was either him, Freeman, J. Harris, or even Stern being that one person left). In either case, the total number of football players on scholarship adds up to 83 now which is the same figure that SAEN's Jerry Briggs stated in an article last week related to NSD.

Also, just because this is the current list right now, it doesn't mean that this will be the final list leading up to the 2013 season; attrition can occur at any point between now and then and some players may turn out to not qualify after all. Also, Coker can potentially bring in transfers and/or award a scholarship to a walk-on but even if attrition were to occur, I can't imagine that a lot of new scholarship players will be in the fold by this fall.
As you can tell, there are 39 junior football players on scholarship which is a lot and it's looking like we will have a mass exodus of players after the 2014 season thus needing to obtain a huge 2015 class (with some maybe counting towards the 2014 class if possible like what Texas A&M did this year with their signing class). Another strategy is to redshirt some of the juniors if they still have a redshirt year (i.e. they've never redshirted); this way the exodus of players won't be so huge come that time and the classifications can be distributed evenly a bit more. Do y'all think that this is a possibility?
The mass exodus is inevitable. Our best bet is to recruit superior talent and hope underclass men can win starting spot thus minimizing the overall blow.

Our coaches have come out and said the best player will get the nod. They believe guys like Lee, Rhodes and Williams can come in and compete for time right off the bat. Other than true freshman OL just about everyone has an opportunity to steal mins.
