Hey Everyone

Did not get to watch the game today questions:

1.) Does anyone have an idea of why we have played so poorly on the road in conference play?

2.) Why McCarter did not play?

3.) Is Darren White coming back before the conference tournament?

4.) Does anyone think there is a chance for a winning season?

5.) Also have we signed anyone for next year?

I listened to the game and they said McCarter may be out the next 1-2 games (in addition to the CSU game). At one point, they said it wasn't injury-related.

In the post-game, Laing said the team had faced adversity this year and the players had not handled very well. Also, the players' effort has been an issue over the span of the last few games. Very frustrating to hear this once again this season. Makes one wonder what the root of this is.

No, I don't think we'll have a winning season. Right now, it looks like the question might be... Will we have a 20-loss season?
There's no reason to bring Darren back at this point and ruin a shot for a potential medical hardship. Not with where this team is at both mentally and in the standings. Sadly, I think Coach Laing and his staff will probably fall on the sword for this season's performance. I just don't see any way he survives this.

One thing I've noticed over the last couple of home games is the difference in players, physically. UNCA and HPU have, for lack of a better way to put it, specimens. We have a bunch of small guys who are "scrappy and speedy." Either way, I hope fans will support the guys we have that are giving the effort for the rest of the season.

Darren has ZERO shot at a medical hardship and WILL NOT be back this year or next. He does not meet the qualifications:

Guidelines for Medical Hardship Waiver Requests
For a student-athlete to receive a Medical Hardship Waiver per Bylaw 14.2.4, the following four conditions must be met:

1. The student-athlete may not have participated in more than two contests or dates of competition or 20 percent of the team's completed contests/dates of competition.
2. The injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the season.
3. The injury or illness does not have to occur during practice/competition, but it must be incapacitating.
4. Appropriate medical documentation must exist and be provided.

Darren doesn't meet the first two requirements. So no medical redshirt or hardship. He is done in a CU uniform. Even if he wanted to come back, he can't.

What do you think is the underlying prolem?

1) I know Trey is leading the team, but I still think without Darren, our youth is not able to win in adverse situations on the road. We should play better, but being preseason #1 in conference didn't help either, just put a bigger target on our backs.

2) I'm not sure, but I really wish Coach Laing would have found a stable rotation by now. Other than Trey, no one is getting a consistent number of minutes. For example, Oliver started and played just 5 minutes, while Marvelle came off the bench for 27. Also, Mason, who doesn't usually play, got 26. I know different games call for different lineups but still, it's kind of disconcerting when the distribution of playing time is so sporadic from one game to the next.

3) I've heard that Darren has been running a little bit and shooting. I know he is going for several hours of rehab every single day. However, when I talked to him the other day, he said it was still hurting and you could tell as he walked that it's still not right. I hope he gets well soon but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

4) I honestly don't think we'll have a winning season, but I hope I'm wrong. Winning 5 of the 6 final regular season games after a 5 game losing streak seems improbable but with the bipolarity we've played with this season, I wouldn't be surprised by any means.

5) I haven't heard any names mentioned officially yet. However, back in November, Darius and Reco wrote on twitter that they were taking these two kids in for official visits. At the end of the day, they welcomed them to the Campbell family and the two recruits tweeted saying they were going to play for CU next year. I know one played in Raleigh with/against Darius but I don't remember any names.

This may be a little out there and may say too much but the night before this 5-game losing streak started, I heard loud yelling and commotion outside my apartment window. When I looked out across the courtyard, I recognized many of the basketball players. Two people were being held apart from one another and I think one may have been a player. Whether they were fighting with one another or together against a common enemy, it's not good for the program. The fact that it happened right before this losing streak makes me wonder if it affected the team chemistry.

I've also heard that for some reasons very few of the players are enjoying playing for Coach Laing this season. The reason for that I don't know, but we had team chemistry problems last year as well so I wonder if it has to do with the coaching at all. I would expect these kind of clashes at the beginning of the season (which there were but I will not mention) but this late, it hurts tremendously.

Injuries and not just Darren White. In fact, some guys are playing through injuries that keep them from playing up to full potential. That is all.

That is interesting to hear some players are playing through injuries. I think if Darren White was playing it would be the difference in a 4 or 5 game swing considering that is a huge difference. With Darren we had a guy that could take over games we do not have that now. Last year I thought we were a very efficient team from the field. We have not been as efficient part of the reason was when Darren (him being are primary option) the roles of the players shifted and they did not respond well. I think that is expected from such inexperience. I also think that fact they we have so many guys that can play multiple positions its kind of hard to settle them in a role.

I think a problem we have always had and believe me we have worse about this is we turn the ball over close to 14 times a game. It hard to win basketball games win you turn the ball over that much. We also have never been a strong rebounding team. In my opinion you do not have a lot of room for error if you don't rebound the ball. We also do not shot free throws that great but I'll admit in years past are free throw shooting has never be spectacular. We also don't go to the line much at all. If we did both things well I think we could have had a major advantage in both games.

We also do not play well on the road. I think that is an experience thing.

Some of the problems will be over come by time. Others we are up to the players if they want to get better.

Things I think we do well:

At times we we can cause a lot of turnovers (steals etc). Those games we have to decided to play to are talent level we have been great on defense.

In the games I have watched I think are team is very patient in the half court and unselfish. I think that is because of great coaching, last year I felt the same way.

I think the talent is there we just need to get a little stronger. We are a lot of fun to watch in the open court.

I think as long as these guys stick together and believe in themselves they will turn it around and next year I would watch out.
