Anyone hear it.

When I tuned in, they'd moved on to 'crootin'.
...thinks they have improved over the past few games even though they were losing
...coaching differently than he will in the future because of team - wants to play faster
...guys never gave up during losing streak
...played pretty much entire second half w/Quincy rather than Terrence because Q was playing better - opposite of last game
...almost chest bumped Quincy through the wall

There you have it guys. Now let's stop complaining about Haase fast until he has a roster full of guys he can use.

I also like have Q and T. Jones on the court at the same time. Q is a pure point guard, while Jones is more of a shooter, and a bit careless with the ball at times. I also like the impact bringing Swing in off the bench has had recently.

Coach also said, that even though his perception is we weren't playing as fast as he would like, NCAA stats show UAB averages the 4th highest number of possessions per game.

That's on the Marketing Department, not anybody else.

But let's be honest here...

That tends to happen when you average over 16 turnovers a game and the other team scores on you a lot.

Yep, that's called tempo. UAB's adjusted tempo is now tied for 4th with Seattle. BTW, DePaul leads the nation in adjusted Tempo, and they are 1-6 in the Big East and 10-10 overall. Playing fast, or having a lot of possessions, doesn't necessarily result in victories if you can't shoot the rock.

I wouldn't consider QT a pure point guard.
Then what would you consider him?
(01-31-2013 11:21 AM)blazers9911 Wrote: [ -> ]Then what would you consider him?

I'd like to know the answer as well.
Well, I have always considered him to be a small shooting guard, which is the position he played as a freshman (AJ's last season). His sophomore year he played point guard, and it really exposed him as not being a true point guard. He struggled all season.

I missed last night's game due to being sick, but it sounds like QT really played well, especially in the second half.

Perhaps I'm wrong, not the first nor last time, and I'm being influenced too much by his freshman year.

Whatever he is, he needs to be more aggressive with the basketball. QT has played in 21 games, and he has only taken 7 free throws!
I recall him being AJs backup as freshman. He is a point guard, just not as good as we have grown accustomed to with AJ and Squeaky in the recent past.

+1

Q and Hoopy are the only ones who seem to constantly think about ball security. T. Jones should shoulder more of the scoring load with Rod and Jordan. The guys are still learning how to play with one another will be nice when they put it all together.
Steve Mitchell mentioned it in the radio broadcast, but you need to get the ball to your PG's whenever possible.

There was a time late when Robert Williams was bringing the ball up & ended up turning it over.

The guards need to go after the ball & demand the ball.

Mitchell certainly would have done that as well as Squeaky, AJ or any good guard.
The biggest knock people seem to have against Q is that he's not Aaron Johnson.
And not many people are. We were lucky having Squeaky and AJ back to back. Most teams aren't going to have one of the better PG's in the school's history on them.

There were several instances when non-ball handlers were bringing up the ball and more times than not, it resulted in turnovers. I got pretty pi$$ed about that sort of sloppy play last night ( and in other games as well) and blame the coaches for not developing schemes that get implemented consistently to keep the ball in the hands of the right guys when getting the ball inbounds and/or upcourt.
Yeah, I remember one time Rucker was leading a break and threw the ball in front of Swing I believe and right out of bounds near the corner. We can't afford those mistakes, and I'm sure Haase is working on what he needs to in order to correct them. I'd rather see the offense reset and work a little of the clock then have us turn a turnover by the opponent into a turnover of our own.
And on the subject of turnovers, I hope we've seen the last throw-in by Alexander Scotland-Williamson.
There was a point last night where Drew thought Coach Haase called a timeout just to get ASW out of the game.
