Quote:ATLANTA — For the second time in as many weeks, Katharine Showalter has been named the Sun Belt conference women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Showalter earned a pair of second-place finishes in the mile and 5,000m races at the Niswonger Invite over the weekend.

The senior ran the 5,000m in a personal-best time of 17:41.32, which is the best time in the conference for the event so far this season. The mark also stands as the 28th best on the national qualifying list.

Then in the mile race, Showalter ran 5:07.66, another personal-best and the fourth-best mark in the Sun Belt during 2013.

At the UAB Invite, Showalter won both the 3,000m and 5,000m in personal-best times to be named the Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 16.

Between the cross country and track & field seasons, Showalter has now earned a total of seven Sun Belt weekly awards. The senior was also named the conference cross country Runner of the Year after taking first place at the Sun Belt championships back on Oct. 27.

The Georgia State track and field team next travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Feb. 2 for the Middle Tennessee State Invite.
