Big winter storm coming

One of the biggest winter storms we’ve seen in a few years could dump up to half a foot of heavy snow across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky over the next two nights.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through 1 a.m. Thursday for Hamilton, Clermont, Kenton, Campbell and Boone counties with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Driving will be hazardous at times, and a glaze of ice could accumulate.

“This is one of the better storms we’ve had in a couple of years,” said meteorologist Andy Lattos.

Worst hit will be Butler County, which is under a blizzard warning and could see 3 to 7 inches, with the most snow falling in the northern part of the county. More populated area such as West Chester Township are likely to be blanketed by 4 to 5 inches.

A winter storm warning was issued for Warren County, which could get 3 to 6 inches of snow.

The weather event, the first measurable snowfall so far this season, is the result of a low pressure system in Texas pushing northeast that will skim the southern Ohio Valley on Wednesday.

There is a 100 percent chance of a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain by midnight tonight as the low temperature falls to 31 degrees. About 0.2 inches of ice accumulation is possible with 1 to 2 inches of snow.

The system will switch over to all snow by noon Wednesday with a high temperature around 38. Winds will blow 15 to 40 mph.

Snow will continue before tapering off by about midnight, when the low is expected to plunge to 26 degrees.

Thursday should be dry, but it will be cloudy and cold with a high only reaching 33.

The overnight low will fall to 22.

Friday’s forecast calls for plenty of sun and a high of 35.

This weekend could bring more snow. There’s a 40 percent chance Friday night and a 60 percent chance again on Saturday.

About 1 to 2 inches total are expected, said meteorologist Andrew Snyder.

The snow and winds are not expected to cause any problems at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. AAA is bringing in extra crews to help stranded motorists, and Duke Energy officials say they are prepared to handle power outages.

BLIZZARD WARNING- FAYETTE, UNION, FRANKLIN,DECATUR, RIPLEY CO. INDIANA -

WINTER STORM WARNINGS - WARREN, CLINTON COUNTIES

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY - DEARBORN, SWITZERLAND, OHIO, BOONE, KENTON, CAMPBELL, HAMILTON, CLERMONT, BROWN, HIGHLAND COUNTIES

Good morning, happy Wednesday... get ready for a wild day of weather for the tristate. A winter storm is headed into the area this morning, with rain/freezing rain and snow all being reported across parts of the viewing area.

NW of Cincinnati will see more of a snow event, with major accumulation possible, around 6-10" by tonight. The I-71 corridor will see more of a wintry mix through noon, then snow through the afternoon. Minor accumulation, around 2-4" will be possible.

Southeast of Cincinnati will mostly see rain, mixed with sleet, through the afternoon with very light snow late the afternoon. Travel troubles will be likely north of the Ohio river, with major troubles north and west of our viewing area. Highs today will remain steady in the low 30s, and tonight will drop into the mid 20s. Watch slick spots to form overnight, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Skies will clear for Thursday, with highs in the low 30s. Another round of light snow will be possible by Saturday.

Turned out to be a rather pedestrian snowfall.
I thought the worst was yet to come.
Only 2"-3" inches in Lebanon.
Winter Storm Headed out of the Area

Snowfall totals were very different from location to location. North and west of Cincinnati the heaviest snow fell while south and east there was practically nothing. Here's a few totals: Lawrenceburg, 3.0"; Everton (Fayette, Co.) 8.0"; Brookville, 7.0"; Sunman, 5.0"; Milan, 4.0"; Liberty, 6.5"; Crittenden, 2.0"; Taylor Mill, 2.0"; Oxford, 4.0"; Trenton, 6.0"; Hamilton, 5.0"; Wetherington, 2.5"; Metro Cincinnati, 0.5"; Sharonville, 1.5"; Lebanon, 2.0".

As of this writing all watches, warnings, and advisories have been cancelled and the next couple of days will be quiet. Expect a mix of clouds and sun for Thursday with a rather chilly high of 31°. Friday will see increasing clouds and a high in the mid 30s, and there's another round of light snow in the forecast for Saturday. Have a great evening...

The timing for the storm would have been better if it had aligned with the Mayan calendar
