I suspect the job is AB's to lose and with Briscoe splitting time w/baseball it seems to be a pretty firm hold - as it should be.

We,ve never had so much coverage.

Very few, if any, of Drew's articles end up in the actual newspaper. The sports section of the Birmingham News is all about Saban and UAT football. I can't tell you the last time an article about a UAB basketball game ended up in the newspaper.

Drew is doing a super job and I really appreciate the videos he includes online. You can't get that from a newspaper.

I still wonder what Steve Irvine is doing. He got shafted by the Birmingham News.

The Bham News is all about running e-graffiti from al.com by nameless doofusses in place of actually reporting and editing.

I have seen Steve at some of the football games.

That pretty much tells me all I need to know about how much UAB meant to him & how much he meant to UAB.

He was alongside Crane for a couple of football broadcasts as well.

A few weeks back I looked at the Sports section of the Sunday "news"paper. The 1st five pages were entirely UA, the next 3 the SEC, 1 page about the top 25, and the last 2 pages about Auburn. I can't remember exactly what, but I was looking for coverage that I was sure would be there and, of course, it was not. UAB does occasionally get Wednesday coverage, I think.

That wasn't towards you, directly. One of the reasons our content is down is because a lot of what drives video hits to our site is the same as what Drew puts out...post-game comments, interviews, etc. He can get them up much faster than us because its his job to. Also takes him less equipment to do so because they are taken on his phone.

UAB market isn't big enough for both. With how it used to be, Steve wrote and we'd make a name in video. But the new al.com is wanting more video content.

Really like Drew though. Good friend. However, as soon as he told us that there was a newer focus on video...the writing was sort of on the wall.

As for Steve, I've seen him at a couple of UAB games as well.

I feel like you guys could still use video to focus on game highlights. You can't really get that anywhere as Drew just does interviews and the local tv stations just show 5 second clips if they're even there at all.
