Actually, he fired a decent percentage and alienated the rest. I'm glad he came and I'm glad he left.
Good point. I forgot the Toad left just after renewing his contract but Rhoades signed a five year contract and broke the contract. Sounds like there was no effect on him but devasted the basketball program. I think we should start including a poison pill in these contracts such as if you break your contract the university hiring you must pay the remainder of your contract.

If this were true, there would be absolutely no reason for Evans to have ever looked into going elsewhere. That is why I think it is false, but it's very unlikely we will ever know the precise sequence of events and conversations between all of the parties who left the Rice basketball program or did not leave the program.

We might as well tell coaches in the interview process that we will demonize them on the internet the minute they leave campus. Oh, and we're looking for up and coming coaches that are ambitious enough to build something here and then leverage that to advance their careers. But, they're heroes to the dozens of folks in the stands for some period of time, then we'll demonize them at halftime of one of our football games for the national media to discuss. Please come to Rice!

I think there is a huge difference in leaving after 3 years versus leaving after 1 (while alienating a decent percentage of the athletic department at the same time).

I'm just glad he left.

Oh, we needed somebody like him to come, and we needed that very badly. But we also needed him to go, and we needed that very badly too.

PTH and I were talking at the Parliament get-together that Almadenmike organized a couple of years ago. The comment was made that we probably wouldn't still be playing D1 football if Todd hadn't come. To which the reply was that we probably wouldn't still be playing D1 football if he hadn't left. I think both are probably true.
I hope no one says Rhoades=Toad.
Can ya'll move all these discussions to another thread? Feel like the recruiting thread should be focused on recruiting.

Looks comfortable shooting from outside, although he's got kind of a funky release (a little similar to Quez). Not too impressive of an offer sheet. Best offer is East Carolina. Might not mean anything that we're offering a forward/wing, but also could mean we're expecting to lose a big.

Other offers include Drexel and UW Milwaukee, who I would argue have had better basketball than ECU recently...

I would think Drexel might be the team to beat given proximity, but maybe he wants to get out of the tri-state.

I wonder if we will see an uptick in Southern California recruiting now that Pera is head coach. Obviously we took Harrison, but Rhoades definitely hit the northeast hard (as he should of given his background).

Malik Osborne is up to 9 D1 offers, including a recent offer from Oregon State.

Malik Osborne visited Rice yesterday.

Absolutely. Time to move on to the future and quit dwelling on the past like a.jilted lover.

Malik Osborne visited Rice yesterday.

He would be a substantial addition.
To re-up who Osborne is:

2017 6-8 prep school kid with offers from Oregon State, East Carolina, William & Mary, and others. Looks like more of a perimeter oriented forward, if his highlight videos are any indicator. Shot looks like a carbon copy of Letcher-Ellis' shot. Also has taken officials to Oregon State and ECU in April.

Another prep guy. No offers out of HS. Got his first D1 offer in October. Best offer is ECU. Looks like Oregon state offered him as a backup SF but 2 more highly regarded recruits already signed for them.

Good size. Maybe he can come in and contribute where Quez would've.

Not sure this is accurate. Oregon State just offered him in late March and he took an official visit there 5 days ago (according to Twitter). Seems like Oregon State's interest in him is recent and current. He took an official visit to ECU 1 week ago.

Also, before going to Don Bosco prep, Osborne was at Rich South High School for his senior year. Before that, he was at Marian Catholic High School (I think his freshman-junior seasons). Not sure how notable his high schools were for their basketball programs, he could have slipped under the radar.

Also, found an article from January 2016 stating that he was 6'5". If he grew an extra 3 inches since his senior season, that can obviously make a huge difference in recruiting. Looking even further back, he was only 5'8" his freshman year (according to his maxprep basketball roster) and 6'1" his junior year (according to his high school football roster). Growing 7 inches the past 2.5 years will do a lot for a player's recruiting prospects!

Interesting. They already have 2 other SF who have signed LOI according to verbal commits.
Don't think I mentioned this before, but Coaches Kreider and Linebaugh both follow Osborne and Don Bosco Prep on Twitter.

Caleb Daniels committed to Tulane.
Coach Kreider started following 6'3" SG Terry Nolan Jr. on twitter. He previously committed to Chattanooga, but just requested a release from his LOI due to a coaching change. Found an article noting that he will likely hear from St. Bonaventure, Siena, Robert Morris, UAB, and VCU. Before committing to Chattanooga, he held quite a few decent offers. He also started following PG Ty Duin (not much info on him out there).
Osborne visited Seton Hall Friday/Saturday.

Hasn't committed yet though.
Ex-Rice player Amir Smith committed to FAU yesterday... looks like he hasn't played his last game in Tudor yet.

Just offered 2018 F David Nzekwesi. 6-8 originally out of the Netherlands who plays in Fort Worth now. Picked up 5 offers in the last couple days, all from mid to low majors. Kid is really built and has a solid post game, but also looks like he can step out.
According to Rivals, Malik Osborne's final 4 are the 4 schools he took official visits to: Seton Hall, Oregon State, Rice, and ECU. I think he'd be a great pickup for Rice, just because I am intrigued by guys that grow up as guards and then hit a late growth spurt.
