I haven't heard anything, but I recommend not searching for Kyle Alexander on twitter right now. Nothing to do with the basketball player that Rice is recruiting, but stumbled across a pretty horrid tweet with someone of the same name. I assumed videos posted on twitter were censored, but maybe not...

Like Brian Bosworth in the 2014 ESPN 30-for-30 film that aired today, you tell me not to do something, I'm likely to try to do it. :-)

I searched twitter for Kyle Alexander and found almost exclusively stuff about his visit to Tennessee. No horrid tweets, as far as I could tell ... but I didn't track many pages.

I did see this Canadian Hoops Hype article in which his dad talks about what he and Kyle are looking for in a college.

Some excerpts:

Quote:“He needs to play somewhat in his freshman year in order to develop. Kyle needs to go to a conference where he can put his skills on display in terms of what he’s good at. He can run the floor really fast, so he needs to get up and down, block shots and rebound,” said Alexander.

In retrospect to a style of play, Alexander prefers a conference that is more conducive to Kyle’s strengths,

“An up and down league like the SEC or ACC. I don’t think right now he can fit say in the Big 12, a bang conference with big thick guys down low. That’s not Kyle right now.”

Academically Kyle desires to study film and any program advocating film school gives them an advantage his father admitted,

“Kyle also wants to study film. If they don’t have his program that wouldn’t be a consideration. I go to a movie with him and he’s like Dad do you know how they made that scene, all he talks about is cameras, angles… he seems to be really interested in that stuff.”

According to Mr. Alexander New Mexico who covets Kyle has one of the best film programs in the country. Western Kentucky also boasts a similar program. According to pops Western Kentucky are showering him the most love and is a place where Alexander took an unofficial during the school year,

“Western Kentucky are relentless in a very good way. They have a very high basketball program for sure, developed a lot of pros and has been in the NCAA tournament."

Regarding the campuses Alexander has already visited, one is out of the race (St. Bonaventure) and the other (Rice) is still in the fold. Rice head coach Mike Rhoades was in Toronto two weeks ago following up,

“I have nothing but positive things to say about them. What’s especially attractive about them is their education, they have sort of an Ivy League education and you can’t beat that. It will prepare you for life after basketball when you tell people you graduated from Rice.

We have alums who are famous filmmakers (Warren Skaaren et al) and screen writers (Bill Broyles) ... and a distinguished alum whose son is an Academy-Award winning director (Texas Anderson/Wes Anderson). But do we have a film education program, per se?

For once, it appears I got somewhere on the Internet before you did. It probably did get pulled down by someone before you got there. And yes, it was pretty disgusting.

As for what you did find:

If that describes their thinking and their process accurately, I would expect them to make a good decision, whatever it is. Now we can just hope that good decision is Rice.
Unless something has changed, the film program at Rice is next to the baseball stadium, where the championships banner hangs. The problem for athletes is that film classes are usually in the afternoon and last several hours - usually there's a conflict with the practice schedule.

Was it this one: Kyle Alexander on Twitter ?
every time I see another entry on this thread, I think we have signed a 6'10" option QB.

Keeping my fingers crossed....
Has it been determined whether Jeremy Jones will concentrate on football or basketball or attempt to play both?

This made me laugh.
According to VerbalCommits, 6'6" SF Amir Smith committed to Rice, class of 2015.
Interesting. Amir Smith is from my local high school (Ridge Point). And he's the son of Joe Smith, the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft a few years back. He's a bit of a project because he hasn't been playing basketball that long, but obviously he has very good genes.

Here's some info on Amir, and some You Tube compilations:

Looks like a perfect Rhoades recruit and from the Houston area!
Nice addition to the team.
Young for his grade and wears a size 17 shoe. Be interesting to see if he adds any more inches.

So up to 13 scholarships can be used per season. So far Rice has 7 guys returning and 4 incoming freshman:
SR: Guercy
JR: Jackson, Drone
SO: Koulechov (RS), Mency, Reed, Pollard
FR: Letcher-Ellis, Evans, Cashaw, Smith
2016: Hall

That potentially leaves 2 more scholarships. However, if they take any more 2015 guys, that starts to really limit the 2016 class, with only Guercy graduating. Easy to see why maybe getting a graduate transfer can really bolster the 2015-16 roster while maintaining some roster flexibility.
I think we've determined Reed won't be back either? So that still leaves 3 scholarships. And I think you need to add Jeremy Jones to your list mrbig, but he's a football scholarship guy obviously.

Reed - I haven't seen anything in twitter or from Riceowls.com. Just going with what is official.
Jones - I was just writing about scholarships. Jones is obviously a great addition to the basketball team if he plays again, but presumably he will be ~6 weeks late to start the season again.
Long and athletic. More of what this team currently lacks.
Saw a tweet that Indiana transfer Max Hoetzel is expected to visit Rice (along with UNLV and San Diego St). Played 7.7 min/game last season. 6'8" and looks like a solid shooter (10/29 on 3-pt attempts). Presumably he would have to sit out a year.

Whoa, this is big news right? Coach Rhoades is making Rice a viable destination for top area recruits? Amazing, the difference he's made in 1 season. I can't wait to see what he can do with this new team.
