With the firing of Zeigler, the loss of Zeigler and McBroom, and now the recent loss of Whitfield and Stainbrook at WMU, does this project EMU to be the top Michigan team in the MAC next season?
From the Hustle Belt:

Wow, I didn't realize Stainbrook was transferring.

To answer the question: it seems like we are a safe bet to be the best Michigan MAC school next year. Unless WMU's incoming freshmen make a HUGE impact, I don't expect much out of a team that already had problems rebounding and defending. A nucleus of Hutcheson, Whittington, and Richie is not something that scares me. They'll have a hard time getting anything done inside against Riley, Harris, Bryant, and Still. CMU will be pitiful if Zeigler, McBroom, and Jackson all indeed transfer.

We just have to figure out who will be "the guy" on offense. Nobody expected it to be Lampley before this past season started, so I'm sure someone will step up...could be DT, Harris (who showed some nice offensive flashes at the end of the year), or one of the transfers. Our stingy defense should only be better next year, but questions will remain offensively. Hopefully Harrison, Bryant, and Ray Lee can bring some spark on that end of the court.
I'm fairly certain most people had you pencilled in ahead of WMU before Stainbrook left. This only solidifies the preseason rankings.

Yes!!
Of course!!! They were the best in Michigan this year and they are adding a ton of talent, so obviously! But that isn't saying alot, WMU and CMU will suck.

Those who hoped to see the MAC West 'bounce back' have to be disappointed.

The division continues to be mired in mediocrity and problems.

Hard to be but EMU is the division's best hope.
Toledo too. They bring everyone back and finished strong.
What I like:

EMU > Ohio
Ohio > UofM

Therefore EMU > UofM?

Can we get a home and home with UofM?

Incredible performance by Ohio U!!! DJ Cooper is amazing. Huge win for the MAC.

Ha Ha, Michigan lost their last 2 games to Ohio!

UofM would never do a home and home with us. They never do anything to help EMU. They are sucky neighbors.

Ohio's win and D.J.'s big game is a replica of their '10 win over Georgetown in the NCAAs.

Amazing but it is a repeat.
I've told all my friends and family in different states to watch this kid Cooper, he's just like Lorenzo Neely and he did not let me down, he made me look like a genius (again). I cannot wait to see what Ohio comes up with next, that is a good team, they did the MAC proud (again).
Toledo will be favored to win the MAC West initially, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't end up on top. It all depends on how well the transfers play.

Bob, would EMU ever do a home-and-home for Rochester or Concordia? They certainly have shown a willingness to play these teams so why not play at their place?

There is no benefit for UM to go to EMU. None. Criticizing them for doing something that can only hurt them is not a legitimate complaint in my opinion. You ought not expect of UM what EMU themselves would not do.

Ohio was the better team yesterday. They deserved to win. However, as someone rightly pointed out on here a couple of days ago UM was a bit overrated. They were dominant at home beating MSU and OSU at home, but terrible on the road. 4 seeds should not have such a discrepancy. UM's lack of athleticism, front court size, and inexperience at the PG position made them so. Next that won't be the case as Burke will have another years experience, Horford returns from injury, and they add a celebrated recruiting class that adds athleticism and size.

First off, I'm going to say I respect Wolverine Eagle for expressing his opinion, no matter how unpopular it may be. I'm the same way--I'm not on the EMU payroll, so I don't sugarcoat things.

However, I must say that U-M was highly disrespectful to both OSU and Ohio University. They are arrogant and they've done nothing to justify their arrogance. That is what rubs people the wrong way. After U-M got their asses handed to them by OHIO STATE, Beilein still called them "Ohio." That is why so many people hate the Walmarters.

Secondly, yes I think EMU would have no problem playing a home and home with Rochester or Concordia. Why would Eastern thumb their noses at either one of them? They are not D1 and EMU doesn't strike me as being petty. U-M does strike me as that way. Until they get over themselves and they never will, they are going to continue to be much reviled by everyone except U-M alums and of course, the ever present downriver Walmarters.

Here's my final impression of Ohio's great victory. They were the better team, much more athletic and D.J. Cooper will be playing in the Association in another year.

I don't think anyone expects a home game with UofM (or maybe a game in Ann Arbor, either). It was somewhat of a flip comment.

I would look to see if Murphy can get a 3:1 with 'Cuse with a game in Ypsi say 2013/2014.
Dear Friends,
Not that I want to turn this into a "down" on U-M thing, but what struck me after watching the game with Ohio yesterday, was that Beilein kept the players with four fouls in the game. That tells me that he had no one else to put in their place. Translation: They have no depth. He only played six or seven players the whole game. With two of them seniors, and not back next year, they could be in for a relatively poor season. Anyway, Ohio has shown where Eastern needs to be, If we really want to be competitive.

A few things. The "Ohio" bit is meant to mock OSU's "THE Ohio State University" which is really insulting of Ohio University as Ohio is the older of the two schools. It also is in response to OSU calling UM "That School Up North" which Woody used 40 years ago. I think you need a read a bit more on the subject. It is a football expression developed by a football coach in response to OSU's arrogance.

Secondly, EMU is not in the class of UM nor MSU when it comes to football and basketball in terms of budget and fan support. Concordia and Rochester are not in EMU's class in the same areas. The reality is that EMU would never play at either of those schools because there is no benefit for them to do so. The problem with EMU and UM is that Eastern is so close that there is no recruiting dividend to be paid by visiting. There is nothing "sexy" or interesting about playing EMU at EMU.

Your reference to downriver Walmarters ignores the "Walmarters" who cheer on EMU, MSU, and every other school. It seems a bit stupid to me for you to use the title of a store that quite a few EMU supporters use as a slur.

UM actually returns their leader scorer, rebounder, and assists'. They also return a player who sat out the year in Horford. To this they add a three man class as well as another guard in Carlton Brunbrdige. UM is going to be loaded next year.

I would expect UM to go 9, maybe 10 deep next year. 2012-13 is shaping up to be an excellent year from a roster standpoint. Michigan has not had this depth and level of talent since the Fisher days.
