This time to Georgetown at the Wake Forest Invitational.

11-6 the score - relief pitching has not been good at all this season.

Wow...I thought there was a lot of optimism going into this season.
Cleary is and always has been in over his head. How many decades does he need to turn the program into a reasonably consistent winner?
My biggest concern going into the year was the bullpen. So far they have been horrible. They had a 5-2 lead when the starter was pulled. Then they gave up a walk, a hit, hit a batter and gave up back to back homeruns.

Subflea, I asked this to you on another board, but maybe you can answer it here also - it looks like UC has mostly or only used freshmen middle relief pitchers so far this year. Are there any veteran relief pitchers on the team?

Thx

It is a shame to see that great stadium not used to UC's advantage. There is still a long way to go this year but this start is disturbing.
The guy who gave up the slam and another homer is a senior.

I see that now - thanks.

Other than that, they were pretty good, huh?
I expected more from Mergen. He struggled to adjust to D1 last year, but the staff loved what they saw from him in the fall and preseason. So far he has looked just as bad as last season. I was surprised they went to Chenowethand then Lathuras after Mergen today instead of a more experienced guy like Hough (who did come in eventually today) or Pascuzzi.

They got a good start from Strenge. He gave up one earned run and struck out eight in five innings, and the team put up some runs. Then they went to the pen and it fell apart. Same problem as a year ago.
Dang . I took advantage of the season ticket deal for $10 , knowing if I get to just a couple/few games its more than paid for. Still looking forward to it on a nice spring day . Let's hope they get some wins. They serve beer there , right?
Yes, they serve beer.
Wow, now 0 - 5 and seemingly noncompetitive.

We're being outscored by almost five runs a game and the lowest run total we've surrendered is five (average score of opponents is over seven runs a game).

I did not expect the team to fall flat on its face out of the gate.

Is our pitching really this bad?
I thought I read that Cleary said they were going to be good this year?

13-0 win over UMBC today. Nice to get the first win even if it is against weak competition.
Not to worry. Next 2 weeks of games against Oakland and Chicago State at home. They will pile up the wins against that kind of competition. So far they haven't been competitive against good competition. I would hope the administration has higher standards after putting the kind of money they put into the stadium.

Northern schools don't normally do well going South to play teams early in the year that have been outside for longer times but this season that is not an excuse. The weather allowed UC to be outside playing scrimmages and the Big East/Big Ten challenge is against other northern schools. The only real southern school UC has played so far is Wake Forest and they really aren't that far south.
Game today moved from 4pm to 8pm due to severe weather threat .
