This would bring the Big East up to 13 football members when Navy joins in 2015 and to 18 all sports members.
if you aren't in the big east, you either will or you were.
I guess I can take them off my map now. If this is true, (as expected anyway) the BE makes another run at Air Force.
It will be interesting to see how the A10, MAC, and UMass respond.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Big East is being "highly cautioned" to not poach anymore away from The Alliance.

This move with Temple is one that denies a program to The Alliance.
I'd tell you I'm surprised but I would be lying.

Force the hand like Memphis did. Only thing I is I think the Providence blockade is still in effect.
INVITE EVERYONE!!!

Why not?
The Mac should really make a serious run at Marshall and Marshall should listen...they won't but they should.
Out of everyone they have invited Temple makes the most sense.
Quote:The Big East is in discussions to add Temple for all sports as early as the next school year...

This leads me to assume (perhaps incorrectly) that Boise for 2012 isn't going to fly.

I agree. IMO, Memphis and UCF also made sense, Temple makes most sense.

That Providence blockade is why I came to the conclusion that I did. If Temple is truly being invited, there is more to it than simply having Temple in the conference.
Pipe down, Nova!

The 3 additions that have always made sense were UCF, Memphis and Temple. Honestly those 3 probably should have been added long ago. Those 3 fit what the BE wants to be and fit what a reasonable BE footprint would be.

I agree! I'm a bit surprised Slick Rick isn't talking up his alma mater, UMass.

The Big East would probably look for a football-only member in Air Force, or the darkhouse candidate UNLV.
Like another poster mentioned it just makes to much sense not to invite them. They are flat in the middle of Big East country so to say, and they have quality teams that IMO are right up there with Syracuse and Pitt maybe not seeing eye to eye but you get what I am talking about I am sure. Also this gives the Big East yet another good basketball school to help fill the void especially if Louisville does receive and invite to the Big12. Now if the powers to be can some how get ECU in the mix this new make shift conference will have some punch to it for sure.

Unless of course The Alliance has some protection from folks higher up the food chain than the Big East.
Well from a BB perspective....it definitely will "help" offset a little the loss of SU. Obviously RPI's in any one given season is not the best indicator of the value of the programs....but they are a measure.

RPI's Losing: SU #1, WVU #40, Pitt #93

RPI's Adding: Memphis #26, UCF #54, SMU #212, UH #221

Possible add: Temple #16
Pitt is usually way better.

------------------------------------

If Temple elects to join the Big E then the ball will really start rolling toward finishing the mwc-cusa merger. Cusa-mwc has been waiting for the Temple decision and had they come aboard we would have seen Utep head to the west and another in the East for 18 total. There will be no additions now, will hang in with present alignment at least for the immediate future.
