It's possible some of you may be affected/invited.
Quote:Universities involved in the discussions were the United States Air Force Academy, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Colorado State University, East Carolina University, Fresno State, University of Hawaii, Marshall University, University of Nevada, Reno, University of New Mexico, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Rice University, University of Southern Mississippi, University of Texas at El Paso, Tulane University, The University of Tulsa and University of Wyoming. With the exception of Hawai'i as a football-only member, the participation would involve all sports.

I'm not seeing a single MAC school in there. So if you're not here to cause trouble, you're obviously here mistakenly. See ya.

Temple was there but, as I have said, AD's don't turn down those invitations even if they are not sure about it..

Well see..

At most Temple is gone though I think the extra teams will be from the WAC

lol. Those are the teams already in C-USA or MWC. Maybe you missed the part where we're going to 18-24 schools. Those teams have to come from somewhere.
University of Nevada-Las Vegas AND University of Nevada-Reno?

Hey, maybe Buffalo will get lucky. We'll need a few more eastern teams.

Or not at all. You guys aren't that interesting. Although seeing Tulane and UNLV in the same conference is amusing.

I would call being a part of that conference split waiting to happen "lucky"...

Yeah. The WAC. No sane MAC team would leave to join a newly formed inferior conference.
I would honestly lose interest in my alma mater if they left the MAC for... whatever this is.
Better make sure they put a lot more money into their travel budgets...
I don't think the reason no MAC school will bolt has to do with it being an inferior conference right now. The reason is that the MAC schools are taking a long-term view. After this new conference grows to 20 it won't be too long before the best 12 teams ditch the rest and form a new conference. At that point the remaining 8 are in a world of hurt as they will be in a terrible FBS conference spread across the US with no major TV markets.
Thank God oil is so cheap and will always stay that way.
The idea of going to 24 is interesting to explore. At 24 teams you've got to think here about time zones.

Pacific (4): Hawaii, Fresno, Nevada, UNLV, (2 more)
Mountain (5): Wyoming, Col State, AFA, New Mexico, UTEP, (1 more)
Central (5): Tulsa, Rice, Tulane, USM, UAB, (1 more)
Eastern (2): East Carolina, Marshall, (4 more)

This does play into Bull In Exiles theory that they'll pluck everybody from the WAC. That is until you get to the eastern time zone.

Pacfic (2): SJSU, Idaho
Mountain (1): Utah State
Central (1): UT-San Antonio
Eastern (4): Temple, ???, ???. ???

Eastern timezone options:

FIU/FAU
UMass/Buffalo
Kent/Akron
Ohio/Miami
BGSU/Toledo

That is not a very big list to work with an all but 2 are MAC schools. Its safe to say a Florida school is going to be in so that leaves 2 more spots.

I guess its possible they could look to the FCS ranks at schools like Georgia State and Old Dominion and leave the MAC unscathed outside of Temple leaving.

The MAC could then go with JMU/ASU all sports for 14 in basketball and add Stony Brook as another FB only to compliment UMass. 16 may not be a loved format but I don't see any other attractive options.

Hello Big West!

FSU, SJSU, USU, Idaho, UNLV, UNR, NMSU, UNM, UTEP, CSU, AFA, Wyo...

Isn't it strange how easy that was?

Now travel in the west will always be long, teams will always be somewhat spread out. But, it's pretty clear that you can form a decent conference with sensible divisions right away.

And that leaves

So Miss, La Tech, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa and UAB...Which is a fair start to a new conference. (No. Texas, Ark St and/or Missouri St round that out nicely).

ECU and Hawaii still struggle, but everyone else is taken care of.

I don't think your going to see the 12 teams split out of it any time soon.

The split out conference already exists in the Big East. They have 12 schools that are mostly a combination of CUSA and Mountain West. The alliance is going to become the backfill conference.
