I've been out of pocket all day. I've made some inquiries but no response yet.....which leads me to believe that it's true. If it wasn't, or at least wasn't likely, I'd have heard a denial by right away.
I will tell you this, CGG has always kept his eyes open for new opportunities. When things went bad at USF, he came to USA as just a port in a storm. Now, I do think he's liked it more than he thought he would but nevertheless he would like to be higher up the ladder.
That's not to say that his leaving would be all his decision. The offensive definitely had issues and I think he may have over-multiplied our multiple look offense.
When CJJ was first hired I interviewed him and I asked him his offensive philosophy. He told me that he believed that in modern college football that you needed to use the shotgun and the spread to be successful. CGG used this quite a bit, but I always wondered if he was being pushed to do so and maybe that would have led to an uncomfortable working relationship.
With all the coaching changes now in play, it could be CGG has been getting some calls or maybe CJJ thought that with the FBS coming, he needed a more consistent offensive philosophy that he agreed with.
To me it's telling that the report is that Greg Gregory is not returning and not that Greg Gregory has been hired by another school.

Just got confirmation that he is gone. It looks like a case of CJJ going in a different direction, not CGG getting a better offer.

Wish CGG luck,Glad to see complacency is not setting in with Coach Jones. , will be curious to see what candidates surface as for the replacement, hope we can get a good one that will make waves with recruits and crank out the offensive numbers.

AJ, do you think this move will affect any of our commits/recruits?
I've gotta say, I'm not terribly sad to see CGG go. Aside from a growing displeasure for play calling, I thought it odd that an OC was in the tailgating area an hour or two before kickoff. I hope we do implement some option in there and help our offense be productive in the SB. I mean, think about what the option offense would mean for us. You have Demetre and Kendall in the same backfield? Both as likely to get the ball? And maybe even Myles back there as well? Our opponents would have a hell of a time dealing with that.

CGG had a lot of contacts in the Tampa area but I know other assistants were heavily involved in the guys we have committed from Florida. It's unlikely that this move hurts recruiting. We're more likely to lose a player or two to a new coaching staff at a bigger school. Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss worries me since he liked a number of our players that we beat ASU on.
I'm thinking more of a passing spread for us, but CJ and Myles are both mobile enough to run some option too.

BIR, that last part gave me chills. We're heading into an era that probably requires an option style offense. It will be interesting how this pans out.

Conjecture is that Joey Jones may take more of a hand in running the offense, perhaps even being the coordinator himself. There is a GA that they think has a ton of potential that they want to elevate to an assistant coaching job so they may give him a position to coach and have CJJ take over as OC.
BTW, this is NOT coming from anyone on the coaching staff. Just a knowledgeable source.

Word on the street is that Ameriol Finley may be moving to offense. That would be strong indicator that they are looking at a running, option-style attack.

I wonder how loyal CJ Bennett is to Former OC G.Gregory. I wonder how he feels about the coaching change and is he considering a transfer because of the move.

I somehow feel this was considered and a plan was put in place prior to CGG and CJJ parting ways. Honestly, if the only reason CJ was here was CGG then I don't want him playing for the Jags. If you don't want to be a Jaguar, don't let the door hit you. That being said I hope that CJ does still want to be a Jaguar.

I know it is possible for CJ Bennett to improve, but if he does decide to leave, 7 tds with 17 ints... what are we losing??

Who are you to question CJ's loyalty to USA?
We've had no indication that CJ's considering leaving (except one poster wondering out loud about how he's feeling) and you're already telling him not to let the door hit him on the way out?
You've always been a CJ detractor, but at least have some class.

When I talked to CJJ a few days after the Cal Poly game, he said multiple times they would have to decide what they are going to do offensively. Apparently in the end it did not include CGG.
CGG spoke well of USA and the Mobile area when he talked with Tommy Hicks, which I am appreciative of. He did a good job at USF and his first two seasons here, but I know we are all a bit disappointed with how the offense played this year.
If you remember, Les Koenning was originally hired as OC and he utilizes a spread option attack. So I would think that is what they are looking at in his replacement.
I am eager to see who is hired and what changes they end up making.
