Seems to me that the BE BB would be glad to see the fb schools go away...so why raise the exit fee? BE BB schools are not going to form a new conference and lose all those NCAA $$$$ credits.

The Catholic schools don't need to form a new conference; they can watch as the football schools leave and leave their credits and the Big East name behind.

Right now the football schools are like a dethroned king making demands from his cell -- he has no power but is so used to getting his way that he doesn't understand why nobody is listening to him.

The football schools cannot form their own conference because if they do they leave the BCS bid behind and that new conference will be smaller and less deserving than the MWC for that automatic bid. They also need two more all-sport members in order to meet the basic requirements for an automatic BCS bid, but they are at the mercy of the non-football schools when it comes to all-sport additions.

And it's all laughable because the football schools are killing their own conference by not increasing the exit fees: Nobody worthwhile -- not Navy, not Boise State, not Air Force -- wants to join a conference with an entire membership that is ready to jump at the first offer and isn't even willing to up the exit fee to a paltry $10 million as an act of good faith.

What he said-Especially the bolded part.

Even if the football schools agreed to go their separate ways, they are all not in agreement in which direction they should take seeing how half of them want to leave and join an existing conference. It's like they all went to the club, half the guys met some hot chicks, gave those girls their number and sitting around all week waiting for those girls to call em and not making any plans for the weekend with the boys in case the girl calls and wants to "hang out."

raising the exit fee 5 million-from 5 to 10-is fairly reasonable seeing how the ACC raised theirs to $20 million from $12 million. This is a large sum for the BBall only schools who can't generate that amount as quickly as the FBall (who also have BBall revenue) schools. The ones holding it back are the FBall schools who want to keep the exit fee low incase the "hot girl" comes calling.
When is the meeting? When will begin to hear the leaks of mostly incorrect information tainted with a drop of truth?
I thought the fee increases only effected all-sports members. If this is true then why would the basketball only programs care? Why not vote for something that doesn't effect you?
yeah, i wonder when the bad info starts pouring out.

*affect

I think it applies to everyone-the BBall schools are probably tired of all this reshuffling and want to make sure everyone stays once future members join. It is also a better sign for incoming schools to know that a BE team is not going to bolt as soon as that new team joins. Then repeat this whole ordeal again.

"Under the league’s current deal, that would raise the buyout to between $15-17 million. If the league were able to gain a TV contract even close to the one it recently declined from ESPN -- $1.4 billion over 9 years"

That's an interesting perspective. Why not vote to give the existing FB schools (but not ones added) a one or two year exit fee waiver?

That would almost guarantee that no one new would join and there-by kill the football conference since it would only have 6 teams.
