Hearing word that the Thrashers will be moving to Winnipeg Canada and we could possibly see the Red Wings move to the Eastern Conference-which doesn't make sense.

Wouldn't Nashville to the Eastern Conf South division be better?

I've heard that the Red Wings have asked to move to the East, but that would be AWFUL for balance (both competitively and in terms of fan bases). The Eastern Conference is already heavy with 4 Original Six teams plus the teams with the league's top 2 superstars (Crosby in Pittsburgh and Ovechkin in Washington) along with another great fan base in Philly. In contrast, Detroit and Chicago are really the only 2 national draws at all in the Western Conference. Granted, I'm a Blackhawks fan that would absolutely hate seeing Chicago and Detroit split up, but it would make a ton more sense for Nashville to replace Atlanta in the Southeast Division (seeing that, you know, Nashville is actually in the Southeast). Winnipeg could then go to the Northwest Division and then Minnesota could move to the Central.

If the Jets struggled financially last go round, how is it that they expect a team to survive this time? Has Winnipeg exploded population-wise since then?

I saw that!

My understanding is that the NHL wasn't going to deal with the Thrashers until the Phoenix situation was sorted out. Now that the Coyotes got a one-year reprieve for the Glendale government, the Thrashers situation could be dealt with. I know the big thing with Glendale was the massive termination fee for the lease for the publicly-financed stadium. The Thrashers don't have that issue - it's simply a matter of the current Thrashers owners (who have legitimately tried to find an Atlanta group to sell to for several years) being able to sell to a Winnipeg group. This makes it "easy" for them to move compared to the Coyotes.

I would love a team to come to the hampton roads area. One day.

First, I know nothing about hockey other than I want a Blackhawks jeresy.

The NHL should only have 16 teams in its league. 8 in Canada and 8 in America. This is the only imput I have. So where can I get a Blackhawks jeresy?

Best jersey in sports, IMHO. I love the old school alternate jersey, too.

Geographically, the entire WC Central Division should be in the East outside of maybe St. Louis. However, the competitive balance would be completely screwed up by adding more teams to the East. It's a shame there aren't more places out West that would host an NHL team like San Francisco, Portland, or Seattle.

Best jersey in sports, IMHO. I love the old school alternate jersey, too.

Saw a dude at Johnny's Ice House over on Madison rock the full alternate jersey gear, right down to the socks and gloves. He must have shelled out at least $600 for all of it.

Let's see. Since 1999, Dallas has been to two Stanley Cup finals (1999, 2000) and won once (1999). Carolina has been to two Stanley Cup finals (2002, 2006) and won once (2006). Anaheim has been to two Stanley Cup finals (2003, 2007) and won once (2007). And Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup in 2004, and are on the verge of the Stanley Cup finals this year. Dallas, Carolina, Anaheim, and Tampa are pretty far south of Canada and the North East if you ask me.

The last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup was Montreal back in 1993.

Now what was that about "hockey just doesn't work in the south"?

Coincidentally you would be hard pressed finding an uglier NHL sweater than Atlanta's. That thing is a mess from start to finish...


Spelling your city's name in big, broad letters going down one of the sleeves is almost always a HORRENDOUS decision. Trying to do it in like 36 colors just makes things worse. That sweater just screams, "EXPANSION FAD!"

Nashville's is pretty horrific as well. I actually like Phoenix's sweater a lot. They have come a long way from their days as a Native American inspired - and likely drug addled - take on a psychadelic coyote playing hockey. That was just plain weird.

NO Winnipeg has not exploded in population, but two other things have happened since the Jets left. First the US and Canadian dollar have moved dramatically in terms of their value to each other. $1 US used to be worth between $1.25-$1.40 Can. Now it is just about even. This makes it no more expensive in relative terms to operate in Canada as the US. Second, Winnipeg has become a boomtown again. Its economy is doing well and can support a hockey team.

No way, Doc! The classic Phoenix Coyotes jersey is amazing! So much better than the plain burgundy sweater with the coyote head/running coyote.



Can't beat the all black with the Southwest-y trim. Definitely own one of these babies..
