Recruits Considering UC:

QB: Stephen Weatherford 3* Land O Lakes (FL)

OL: Marquis Lucas 3* OG Miami Central HS (FL)
*Lucas will pick between UC, WVU and USF

DL: Chad Hannah 3* DE Gaither HS (FL)

I'm really glad Alex Chisum decided to stick around. He's going to be a very talented WR in this system. Overall, a very deep and talented class that immediately upgrades UC's weaker positions.
I may know of another preferred walk-on.. I'll let ya know ASAP..
I sure would have liked to have seen a few more DB's in this class. Especially safeties. I guess we just have to hope Murray and Patrick White are ready to play immediately. If not it could be another very long year for the defense.

One good thing is we didn't graduate a single DB and are adding 2 solid safeties.

We will also get a healthy (hopefully) Battle back.

What I saw of Battle last year, I did not like at all. Hope he improves a LOT.
We brought in a lot of DBs in last year's class. Off the top of my head, Chenault, Drane, Hudson, Beal, Witty, Church(moved from wr). Don't know if we need to sign that many this year. Of course, if a 4or 5 star monster comes along...
I guess Lucas won't be taking any more visits if he commits/signs Wed. am as apparently planned:

Quote:USF in final three for Miami Central OL Marquis Lucas

While most of USF's recruiting class is set, there could be some surprises come signing day.

One of them is Miami Central OL Marquis Lucas, as his coach said USF is in his final three, with a decision to be announced at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Lucas, orginally a Rutgers commitment, had narrowed his choices down from five, and the offensive guard will pick from USF, West Virginia and Cincinnati.

"He visited (USF), liked the coaching staff, coach (Skip) Holtz and (assistant) coach (Larry) Scott," said Miami Central coach Telly Lockette, whose Rockets won their first ever state title this season (6A). "He really likes that B.J. Daniels is coming back for his junior year."

Lucas, a two-star recruit according to scout.com, is listed at 6-foot-3, 280 pounds

Lucas' final 3

Interesting that he really likes BJ Daniels returning (was he going anywhere?) for his junior year. USF must be promising him early playing time. I'm guessing that realistically, he's probably actually looking at a RS followed by spot duty at most for his first 2 seasons, but who knows.

For more on Lucas, here's a link to a brief scouting service article and youtube vid:

I have to think he's USF bound if that is the only place out of the 3 finalists he's visited. Never know though.

I think he'd have a good shot at early PT here also. We only have 2 linemen left from last year (Schloemer and Keebler) and both are projected to be tackles (And Keebler isnt ready yet). In this years class, J Murray and P Ehinger are both projected to be tackles and D Murray is a center. So we could use a guard.
Per the Enq. article, with Denham out, it looks like these are the final 4 question marks (assuming no last minute defections - knock on wood):

Quote:• Mike Edwards 5’ 10”/170 (CB) from Coffeyville Community College in Kansas -Considering Cincinnati and Hawaii

• Chad Hannah (6-5, 230) defensive end from Gaither High School in Florida -Considering Cincinnati, Rutgers, USF and Vanderbilt

• Marquis Lucas (6-4, 295) offensive lineman from Miami Central High School in Florida -Considering Cincinnati, Rutgers and West Virginia

• Stephen Weatherford (6-2, 205) quarterback from Land O’ Lakes High School in Florida -Considering Cincinnati and Miami of Florida

- Reports from Hawaii say that Edwards committed to them including at least one saying he actually did it last week. I guess we'll know if that's the final verdict soon enough.

- Per another recent report, Hannah is down to UC and seldom mentioned Rutgers

- Also per another very recent report, Lucas was down to UC, USF and WVU and had eliminated Rutgers. Combining these leaves just UC and WVU.

- Based upon reports of his commit to UC, I'm guessing Miami has already told him they aren't ready to offer. So either he is holding out hope for a longshot UM reversal, or UC is doing due diligence and if he passed/passes he's a Bcat.

Edwards was a 3/4* corner out of Glenville HS in 2009 - signed with Tennessee but was booted half way through the 2009 season for that armed robbery incident with 2 other teammates.
