this thread may get interesting.......*grabbing popcorn*..................

but really......do you have any other ideas as to who the Big East should invite? Or just rollin with those thoughts?

thanks.
Someone is trying to stir up trouble with their 6th post.
So you are saying you would like BYU to be considered?

Now that we already selected TCU....the "biggest name schools" left are Boise State and BYU.....but they are a little West even by TCU standards.

However, there has been talk on here if BYU and BSU were game....it could be done....on a football only basis.
(01-04-2011 11:32 PM)x97 Wrote: [ -> ]C'mon. When the "biggest name school" you can talk about in expansion (realistically) is Central Florida you know the league is aiming for the small time. Central Florida barely averages 30,000 fans to football games and 5,000 fans to basketball games. This is a program that just won is first every bowl game for chrissakes. You guys should really set your sights higher.

Pathetic.

My sentiments exactly.

UCF record in 2010, their best season ever:
vs. teams with winning records: 1-3
vs. teams from BCS conferences: 1-2
Again, this performance is the best in their history.

UCF record since 2005 against teams from BCS conferences: 2-17

UCF TV market: smaller than all but 3 of the 17 Big East TV markets. And they are only the 4th most popular school in that market.

The fact that they are even discussed still mystifies me. The fact of the matter is that now that TCU is on board, there are zero schools out there that make sense for the Big East (with the exception of schools that would turn down a bid). Any expansion at the present moment would be a drunken, desperate, bid to get to 10 football teams with no regard to the quality of their programs.
Oh no! We've been exposed! Surely the Big East Presidents and AD's who read this board will be swayed by this thread! We're doomed!

It would help if you did research before trashing a school. Your lack of meaningful conclusions based on crappy or nonexistent evidence is "pathetic."

Look forward to the field trip to Provo next year.

Please enlighten me then as to what Central Florida brings to the table. You had a nice football season and won your first bowl game in school history. Your attendance numbers are not great. You don't have a national draw.

p.s. I'm looking forward to the game in September. It should be a good one. BYU was a very young team this year and took major steps forward towards the end of the season. BYU will be VERY good next season. Should be an entertaining game assuming Central Florida doesn't get gassed by the altitude.

Have you posted some other ideas for the Big East yet? Who should they be looking at, if not UCF, ECU, Houston, Villanova?

UCF averaged near 40K, which is pretty dang good for a Non-AQ. We also have been to 4 bowl games since our entrance into C-USA in 2005. Our basketball attendance has risen the past 3 years, and is easily on pace to break last year's record this year. Our women's soccer team is consistently very good, and even mens soccer is doing well now. Our baseball team has some major talent, and has high expectations as well.

What UCF brings is potential. With Big East competition in both football and basketball attendance numbers would definitely rise. The talent that is being brought into UCF also has been better and better each year.

Facilities wise, UCF has great facilities, and you obviously haven't done much research there. New football and basketball arenas, with plans to expand the football stadium, also excellent practice facilities. Our baseball and soccer complexes are about to be upgraded as well.
All of these candidates bring degrees of "potential" to the table. It's one big game of "potential".

Me personally....I walked around your campus.....I saw your athletic facilities when I was there in October for the ECU game.
I thought Mormons were supposed to be friendly. Why are you trolling here? You guys are independent. The hell do you care?
For one, you're writing as if UCF is the worst thing ever or that adding UCF would be "pathetic," which given the hundreds of millions of dollars invested in athletics over the past 5 years, I don't agree with.

We bring a massive enrollment (that will translate to a larger alumni base), we hover around 40k for football in a 45k seat stadium that can be expanded and improved up to 65k, basketball has been weak in attendance but getting better since moving into the state of the art UCF Arena in 2007, other olympic sports are supported and usually good (ranked soccer/baseball, etc.), and especially and arguably most importantly, we have shown a commitment to win and support all athletic programs in general.

Yes, we are new on the map and therefore will not have a lot of history or national presence. But you have to start somewhere. And yes UCF did squander opportunities in the past (see 2005 expansion and the support leading up to that), but those are being or have been corrected as we speak and in the past half decade. Some of those fruits are being seen now with a better football program with a few division and conference titles, rankings, and finally a bowl win. Basketball made a move to improve coaching even though the previous previously built the program and put it in a great position for success.

I see it almost as a "too big to fail" situation given how the university has positioned itself over the past 15 years under President Hitt's leadership academically and now athletically. Would it be an instant overnight success? No. But I have little doubt that over time, UCF becomes a much larger name nationally that would benefit everyone. Timeframe-wise, I'm talking at least this decade.

I understand if people do not feel an institution may not fit into a conference or feel theirs have more merit to join one over another, but I don't see a need for the hostile tone I'm seeing sometimes. This goes for my fellow fans and non-UCF fans.
I just want to know who the OP wants us to invite. Maryland and Penn State are not walking through that door. Frigging BC isn't even walking through that door, and they stink.

I don't think a mormon should know who she is. They use the "bubble" fake stuff.
This thread was seriously moved to the Smack Talk forum? I'm surprised it wasn't pinned to the top of the Expansion/Split forum given some of the moderators' feeling about UCF.

The mods on this board dont have a problem with UCF, the program. We have a problem with some of its fans. Not all of them, but just a handful.
Hey, BYU is going to find out about UCF next year when another Florida team out-athletes the slow white boys.
