TULSA FOOTBALL NEWCOMERS REPORT TO CAMP
(From Official Tulsa Atheltic Sports Board)

Univiersity of Tulsa Head Football Coach Todd Graham welcomed 30 newcomers to campus today. Among the group of newcomers are 15 scholarship players and 15 walk-ons. Three junior college transfers, two four-year school transfers and 10 true freshmen are among the scholarship players.

Tulsa newcomers will undergo a series of compliance, academic and other administrative meetings on Thursday before hitting the field for a Friday morning practice.

"We're ready to get camp started. We're really excited about this football team and how hard they worked during the summer. This is the time of year that we look forward to as coaches and players," said Graham. "We feel extremely good about the newcomers we have reporting today and know that over their careers they'll make an impact on our football team."

"I really do expect our newcomers to be impact players, especially defensive lineman Darrell Zellers, Durrell Finch, and Tyrunn Walker, all of whom provide big-time size and explosive up front on the defensive line."

The true freshmen scholarship players include five defensive backs--James Roberson, Brion James, Luke Snider, Marco Nelson, and DeWitt Jennings. All but James are from the Tulsa area, as Roberson and Snider played at Class 6A Champion Union High School, while Nelson played at Glenpool High School and Jennings at Bixby High School. Mitchell Osborne, a linebacker, also joins the Tulsa defense as a true freshman.

Only four true freshmen are on the offensive side of the ball for the Hurricane this season, including skill players Thomas Roberson (WR), Ja'Terian Douglas (RB) and Kalen Henderson (QB). Offensive guard Jake Alexander, who's father Dave started three years on the offensive line for Tulsa and had a long career in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to compete for playing time this year.

Two four-year college transfers, 6-6, 319 pound offensive lineman Joe King (Texas Tech/Oklahoma City/Putnam City) and 6-0 cornerback Lowell Rose (UCLA/Los Angeles, CA/Culver High School) have joined the Tulsa roster as well. The sophmore King will redshirt in 2010, while Rose, also a sophmore, will be elgible to play in 2010.

The JUCO transfers on campus include running back Derrick Hall (5-10, 210), who played at Navarro (Texas) Junior College, after originally signing with Texas A&M out of high school. Defensive ends, Tyrunn Walker (6-3, 265) was a JC All-American in 2009, and is joined at defensive end by fellow junior college transfer Durrell Finch (6-5, 232) who comes from Cabot (Calif.) JC.

In January, Tulsa had seven new signees join the Hurricane roster and will report with the returning players on Thursday.

Of those seven players, four newcomers include four-year transfer Jameel Owens (WR), JUCO transfers Milton Howell (DB) and Darrell Zellars (NG), and high school freshman Donnell Hawkins (LB). In addition, three greyshirts, Greg Brown (TE), Stetson Burnett (OL), and Shawn Jackson (LB), who sat out and did not attend Tulsa last year after finishing their prep careers in 2008, were also on the Hurricane roster in the spring.

The 2010 signing class also included five players that are going thru a greyshirt season this year: Zik Asiegbu (LB), Alec Henry (DL), George Quentin (LB), Eldon Thompson (LB), and Cole Way (P). Other February signees--Brenton Bogar, Relus Chance, Tres Houston and Deonte Morris--will attend junior college.

The returning players will report on Thursday and have their first practice Friday night. Tulsa's Annual Media Day will also take place on Friday in mid-afternoon.
