Good rating for the U.S. England game Saturday in South Africa. However, I think that will rating will go down unless the public sees the US Men's National Team have a realistic chance of advancing out of the second round. Will the casual fan watch the next U.S. game this upcoming Friday?
I would say I'm a casual fan. I'm definitely going to watch any USA game that is televised during the World Cup. I did the same thing during the Confederations Cup last year.
I think it will fall some due to it being on a work day at 830 am. This is much different than a Saturday afternoon, but I hope that it is still high as this game has probably been the most important since the beginning. It is a must win if we want to control our own destiny at all in getting the the next round.
The rating for the actual US-England game is 9.0. That 7.8 rating includes the pre and post game show.

It is also on Friday early in the day, which will hurt in the ratings for the US versus Algeria game. Do they include the ratings of people who Tivo'd or DVRed the game to watch it later in the day?
We play Slovenia Friday June 18 at 9am CDT. Since it's a working day for most, the ratings will probably not be as high. But IF the U.S. lays a 3-1 or 4-0 win on Slovenia to carry a solid goal differential in to the June 23rd game against Algeria, I see that June 23rd Wed 9am rating solid numbers since England will play Slovenia concurrently, and it should be the two determining matches as to whether or not we advance, win our group, or come in 2nd. That morning should have a lot of eyes on their TV sets or mobiles.

Though I'm scheduled in all day conferences, that Wednesday, the most of us will find a say to watch whilst we feign interest in the guest speaker's dronings.
I hope the WC gets some great ratings so ESPN may carry more soccer in the future. Yo amo el futbol!
