This is something I've never seen at the end of a basketball game. Mercer lead 74-62 and dribbled up court very slowly -- obviously running the clock out with about 10 seconds to go. Mercer held the ball right in front of the official just over the half court line while Upstate players stood motionless. Then with about 3 seconds to go an Upstate player named Josh Chavis stole the ball and took it the other way to score.

There's just certain things you don't do, and that's one of them. The coach needs to take some action and I hope he apologized to Hoffman as they shook hands.
I have no problem with it...Mercer was doing the right thing in not trying to score, but Upstate was still doing everything they could to win the game. However, I would not fault Mercer in the next game for continuing to run up the score even if the game was no longer in doubt. You can't fault a team for doing everything they can to try and win, but now you can't fault Mercer for doing everything they can to make sure they close a game out.

I hate to agree with Kennesaw....but I am left with little choice.
If they want to continue to try and score they need to play defense for the entire clock. They sat back and then the one guy stole it with :03 on the clock. The rest of the squad had conceded with about :15 on the clock. And yes, they did everything they could to win, but there is no 12 point play in 3 seconds.

A coach who is 0-6 does not need to have his players doing things like this. That's who should be concerned about it. Considering they will probably finish with about 4 or 5 wins maximum.
