I can't believe we lost to these clowns. Were they playing soccer?
These "clowns" were not pampered "superstars" and wanted to win the game. They have some talent on the team, including two guys with NBA experience. It is not a cake walk like it used to be.
I watched about 10 minutes of the game and was disgusted. Everey US player would throw a fit whenever a foul call went against them.

Then I saw that the coach was a Tar Heel and I immediately understood where that behavior came from.
taste me
E. Brand
A. Davis
B. Davis
M. Finley
R. LaFrentz
S. Marion
A. Miller
R. Miller
J. O'Neal
P. Pierce
B. Wallace
J. Williams*****

I figured out the problem
I know I'm brokenhearted.
Pepe Sanchez has NBA experience? Sitting the bench maybe.
Frankly, I'm surprised it lasted this long -- especially since we don't use our best players anymore.

Those are good teams we are playing out there, not slouches. And, I'm sure they play together more than just one Olympics, Goodwill Games, World Championships, or whatever. They don't have the revolving door that is the USA national team....

Did we really expect to keep winning every game without even playing our best players?

And to think, UNC wants to hire George Karl to be their coach at some point. This guy may even be worse than D'Oh.

I really don't think you get up to that level by being a terrible coach....

By the way, the powers that be at Carolina never wanted Karl as coach (only Dean, after Roy Williams and Larry Brown). It was never going to happen.

And, in all his struggles (which will turn around), Doherty still only has a losing record against two ACC teams.

Yea right - Team USA has 2 weeks to practice (not nearly enough) - and does not use our superstar talent.

I'm sure Shaq, Bryant, Iverson etc. would thrash everybody.

A properly prepared, cream of the crust, Team USA would dominate. Period. End of story.
A properly prepared team of NBA bottom feeders should still win. The coach is to blame for this embarrassment.

Everyone, take note of the fact that the only people who won't blame the coach are UNC fans.
I think GTS just blamed something else other than the coach.

Maybe it's that the only ones who want to place the entire blame on the coach are some anti-UNC fans....

-JD
Well, it wasn't a talent issue. It was a preparation issue. That falls squarely on the coach.
I'm sure there's plenty of blame to go around. Truth is, our NBA players have been lackadasical in international play for many games now. They have survived some close calls before. They were bound to lose eventually. I don't like it, but it's not the end of the world.

A starting five of:

J Kidd
A Iverson
T Mac
Tim Duncan
Shaq

would absolutely kill every other team.
LK, if you really think a coach, no matter who he is, can "coach" that group of prima donnas, you are not as much of a realist as I thought.
By the way, that group of prima donnas -- "led" in attitude by Paul Pierce, who gets all over my nerves -- won't even get a medal at this World Championships.

Great job guys....

I am suprised by the USA not getting to the medal round. I was suprised to see the Americans lose to Yugoslavia today..ah well!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
Yet another brilliant coaching job by George Karl.
