To the UNC fans out there, what are your opinions of Roy Williams and the entire saga two years ago?

I've seen enough opinions on it to know that there are many Carolina fans out there who still feel that he is a traitor.

I don't agree, and I just made a long post on the IC board about it which details my opinion. I got a little too long-winded about it, so I can't even begin to restate that. You can check it out here, though: Why the Roy-hating? -- Page 3 .

Thoughts?

Roy did what was best for Roy. I do not blame him for that. Let it go.
Rick,
Did you even read his post? He agreed with you, why does he need to let it go?

JD,
I think Roy did the right thing. He had something great going at KU, and he should have (and will) finished what he started.
Nate, I think everyone needs to let it go. It serves no purpose to discuss it IMHO. Just beating a dead horse.
I think it's fair game. Considering his new success at KU, and UNC's lack of success, I think it's fair to reexamine it.
I agree that it would be great if everyone "let it go." But, whenever anyone states any sort of support for Roy, someone has to be there to bash him for what happened. And vice versa.

I've never seen it discussed here, so I wanted to see the viewpoints of the UNC (and other) fans on this board.

Personally, I still feel that he is part of the Carolina family and I will pull for him most of the time. I will not pull for him over Maryland, though, because of my ACC ties.

Big Case, considering that KU hadn't made it to the FF or won it all in who knows how many years, I consider this year "new success".
I agree that he will be more successful with a title under his belt. But, even Dean was considered a success before he won his first title. And UNC had just won a title right before he took over as coach.

Roy wins the Big 12 championship practically every year and has had many 30+ win seasons. Kansas has been consistently ranked in the top 10 (mostly the top 5) since he's been there. He has been a #1 seed numerous times, and has made the Final Four a couple of times. His only real knock is that he's gotten knocked early in the tourney time and time again.

His vindication will come if he finally wins the big one, I agree about that.

Good points, Assassin.

We'll get you in Durham. Old Ratface won't know what hit him. We lost two McDonald All America point guards, but Tywon will be back for the game in Cameron. Then it will be Katie bar the door.

why?
Why did this thread from 2002 get bumped? It's over half a decade old!

Where's a mod when you need one?
there is no other activity on here so whatever.

and still no response to backup your claim of greatest active coach-cuz it aint based on most NC's or most wins-cuz he aint got neither
But he does have the highest winning percentage and he'll be coaching a LONG time. We'll see what happens in the end.
I don't see Roy going anywhere for a LONG time.
Wow, I come back and find a thread I started six years ago alive and well.
Nice having you back, JD. I always liked you even though I thought rick was an arse. What'd you think of the UT/Vandy game? IMHO, if UT and Memphis were in our league, they would each have 5-6 losses. I can't think of a worse #1 team than UT was, but it didn't last long, did it? We'll be #1 come Monday.
