CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson defensive lineman Chris McDuffie is planning to enter a pretrial intervention program after his drug arrest last month, according to his attorney.

Paul Aaron said his client would go into the program barring unforseen circumstances. Greenville County proescutors said McDuffie had applied for PTI, but has not yet been accepted.

McDuffie, a 19-year-old reserve, from Danville, Va., turned himself in to Clemson police last month and was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within proximity of a school.

McDuffie had been suspended from the team since the charges. Clemson coach Tommy Bowden said he would make a statement when the team starts practice Friday.

The pretrial intervention program runs three months and allows first-time, nonviolent offenders to have their record expunged upon completion. Participants typically perform community service and attend counseling.
